How to make a Vanellope running costume

Vanellope running costume - Disney in your day

I love planning RunDisney costumes, and doing them for the Princess races are some of my favorites.  I’ve traditionally done a princess for every one of these races.  I followed along in that theme this year as well, though I chose to do some more “non-traditional” princesses rather than the typical ones.  For the Enchanted 10k I dressed as Vanellope Von Schweetz from Wreck-It Ralph.

This was an “easy” costume for me to put together because I’d already done a full costume for Halloween.  The full costume for October in Pennsylvania wasn’t exact for running, but I was able to use bits and pieces of it to make it better for a running costume in Florida!

Vanellope running costume - Disney in your day

Tank top

Instead of going with the hoodie that Vanellope normally wears (and what I had for my Halloween costume), I used a tank top in that same turquoise color.  It was a low of 60 degrees and high of 80 race weekend so I knew a tank would be better for me!  I bought a basic one from Target and then used a pink fabric pen to draw the details on.  I wasn’t sure how the color would show up on the darker fabric but it actually worked quite well!  Get a similar tank from Amazon here.

Leggings

I used a plain pair of white leggings as the base for this outfit and then decorated them.  I put painter’s tape in stripes around the parts that I wanted to stay white.  Then I used a teal spray paint to make them mostly teal.  I probably could have done a better job with the tape because it was a little uneven, but it still turned out pretty well.  I then used the pink fabric marker from before to add the thin pink stripe details.  Get basic white leggings here.

Skirt

For the skirt that goes over the top of Vanellope’s leggings, I bought the brown sparkle skirt from Sparkle Athletic.  I love sparkle skirts and I can use this one again for future costumes (I’m thinking a Hershey bar for the Hershey half marathon!).  Grab your brown sparkle skirt here!

Hair Candy

One of the coolest parts of Vanellope’s look is all the candy in her hair!  This took awhile to make and also to put into my hair, but I think the effect is worth it.  To make it I bought bakeable clay.  I cut out various shapes of candy using small cutters and designs and then baked until they were hard.  I used super glue to attach the clay candy to bobby pins and hair clips.

Those pieces are all the basics that you need for a Vanellope Von Schweetz running costume!  You can also try to coordinate a sports bra, compression socks, etc.

Are you a fan of Vanellope?  What do you think of my Vanellope running costume?

Stitch Fix review – March 2017

It’s Stitch Fix time!  I had some specific requests this time around and my stylist, Julie, really listened and presented me with some great options.  I had requested short sleeve tops and some neutral cardigans so I could create a versatile wardrobe.  This is basically the librarian uniform.  Depending on if I’m moving or sitting, if it’s hot or cold, I can go from short sleeve to sweaters all year long.  I had also requested stuff that could be machine washed because I never find the time to hand wash.  Well, Julie told me I could put all of my handwash stuff in the machine on the delicate cycle.  She said she does it all the time and everything turns out fine, so I’m definitely going to try that!  It would be an awesome lifesaver!

Delila Split Neck Knit Top – $48

I really liked the style of this top.  It’s not as boxy as some of the other shirts I’ve been getting lately – I like that it was more form-fitting.  Jason wasn’t crazy about the pattern but I thought the flowers were pretty.  I know it’s the type of thing that I could put on and not worry about how it looked all day because I know it would be fine.  So I kept it!

Becky Cutout Detail Blouse –  $44

I may have started out biased with this top because it’s got my name!  And I think just like me it was colorful and vibrant with a fun pattern.  Though a little more boxy than the last one it still fit well and I really liked it.  It also has a cute cutout detail on the back, so I decided this one was also a keeper.

Susanna Split Neck Blouse – $44

A pretty navy blue top with a nice pattern, this one was the most “boxy” out of the three tops I got, which isn’t my favorite look.  I liked the shirt well enough but not enough to spend $44 on it, so I ended up sending this one back.

Lahaina Lace Detail Knit Cardigan – $68

The first out of two cardigans I received, this one was a nice beige color with a floral lace pattern.  Jason hated this one – he thought it looked like a “grandma sweater.”  I thought it was okay but not necessarily my typical style.  I tried it on and the biggest issue for me was how it hung in the front.  It’s designed with extra fabric because it’s supposed to drape in that really pretty way, but I found when I moved around a bit it would look awkward.  I think that would drive me crazy, so it was a pretty easy choice to send it back.

Concord Striped Draped Pocket Cardigan – $58

I like stripes and I thought the gray stripes on this one were cool looking – I could match it with a variety of different colored tops underneath.  Plus I love the style of this type of cardigan.  I had one once that I kept because I loved how it looked even though the sleeves were too tight.  This one luckily I have no sleeve issues!  So definitely decided this would get added to my closet as well.

As usual, I was pretty pleased with Julie and what she selected for this fix.  I’m looking forward to see what she does for the next one, when I plan to request more dresses since it will be warmer and approaching summer!

If you’re interested in signing up for your own Fix, I would love it if you’d use my referral link – it would give me a $25 credit to use on a future fix, and doesn’t cost you anything.  I used a friend’s link when I signed up for mine so I could help her out, so I know it’s much appreciated!

This is the time of year when I live off of all the Disney news coming out because I’m not going to Disney within, like… the next three months 😉  Thank goodness for the internet, social media, and Disney blogs!  I’m counting down until D23 and Disneyland (July) and what should be a really awesome anniversary trip to Disney World (September).  And I’ll try not to convince myself to fly off to Disney World for 1 day just to see Wishes one last time… or visit Pandora as soon as it opens…

Disney News

Disney Rumors

Magic Kingdom  //  It seems very likely that Tomorrowland will be getting a big update soon, though when and what is unknown.  There are talks of some sort of TRON attraction coming, and the closing of Stitch’s Great Escape seems imminent.

Disney World  //  This time of year the “free dining” promotion is always rumored.  Though we’ve seen it in the past, it’s been more and more limited each year.  If this deal does come out, I personally expect it to be a limited set of dates and resorts.

Epcot  //  A rumor is floating around that Epcot’s France pavilion will get a new attraction.  Word is that it could be either Beauty and the Beast themed or Ratatouille themed.

How to make a Moana running costume

Moana running costume - Disney in your Day

Is Moana considered a princess?  Well, I don’t know what you think, but I believe she is.  She may not have the official princess title, but she’s the daughter of the village chief so she’s as much one as Pocahontas.  She’s also strong, independent, and fun, which is why I chose to do a Moana costume for the Princess half marathon!

Because the movie is still pretty new, there wasn’t as much inspiration when I was planning my costume.  That was okay though, because I like the opportunity to get creative and come up with something fun on my own!  There were a few different parts that went into making my Moana costume, and I’m happy to share them with you:

Moana running costume - Disney in your Day

Skirt

I used the same video tutorial that I had for my Megara costume to sew the skirt.  My wonderful husband Jason finally helped me fix my sewing machine so it’s been fun doing more to make my own costumes!  I picked a plain tan fabric for the bottom layer and made it using the tutorial.  I then did a different striped fabric on top, with a little less fabric used so that it didn’t completely cover the tan layer.  It wasn’t the exact same pattern as Moana’s skirt, but it was pretty close and I think you could tell what it was supposed to be!  Though I didn’t, you could also paint yellow flowers onto the skirt using fabric paint.

Moana running costume - Disney in your Day

Sash

I got bits of a fun orange patterned fabric to make the sash.  I didn’t do anything too fancy with this – just sewed them together into a long strip that I could then tie around my waist.  However, once I got my costume on to actually run, I decided to ditch the sash.  It felt too bulky to me and made it hard for my to access my running belt.  If you do an armband or something like that it might work better for you.  pins.

Moana running costume - Disney in your Day

Tank Top

Though I could have tried to make a top with more of a design like Moana’s had, I went with a plain orange tank in the closest color I could find to what Moana wore.  And even though she may be in a strapless top, for running I knew I definitely needed those tank top straps!

Moana running costume - Disney in your Day

Flower

To make the whole thing come together and feel a little more tropical, I put a pink flower in my hair that I already happened to have from a previous murder mystery costume.  It’s a simple one from Amazon with a clip attached so you can easily put it in your hair or attach it to a running headband.

Check out my other running costumes here:

How did you think I did with my Moana running costume?  Any ideas for future costumes?  I’ve hit on a lot already!

Disney news, rumors, and round up – June 2017

May was a pretty exhausting month, but the one good thing is that for the most part, it got a lot better than the first 4 months of the year.  The first week or two was rough – if you’ve been following my round up posts you know that we lost our cat Merlin right at the end of April.  So it wasn’t an easy time and we still miss him tons.  But amazingly, nothing went seriously wrong after that.  I had my birthday party, ran a 10 mile race and a 5k at a winery, and went on vacation. And lots of rehearsals – I’m in a production of Chicago and we open in 9 days!

Work has been busy this month but in a good way.  It’s my first time in this position before the summer, which is our busy season.  There is a ton to do to get ready for summer and I’m nervous but excited for it!  I’m a children’s librarian so we do a big summer reading program with lots of activities.  We also went to all of the schools in the district to do assemblies about the library.  That was a bit exhausting!

For Memorial Day weekend we took a trip out to Williamsburg.  We spent two days at Busch Gardens, two at Colonial Williamsburg, and a day at some local wineries.  I’ll definitely be sharing some of the fun on the blog, especially the Busch Gardens Food and Wine festival!

Disney News

  • Once Upon a Time did get picked up for a seventh season, but a lot of the main cast members are leaving – including Snow White, Charming, Emma, Henry, Zelena, and Belle.  Not sure where they’ll go with it now.
  • Fan of Lularoe clothing? They are now officially partnering with Disney! Can’t wait to see what they have to offer!
  • Pandora is going to include a new app that focuses on conservation – I love this idea!
  • And Pandora is now open!  Opening weekend crowds were crazy, but I can’t wait to check it out myself!
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales came out this past weekend, and while it hasn’t done as well as some of the other Disney blockbusters it’s certainly holding its own and pleasing fans of the Pirates franchise!

Rumors

Magic Kingdom  //  The Hall of Presidents has been under refurb for awhile now to add Donald Trump’s animatronic – but there’s rumors that he may not give a speech, as has been typical of the current president.  Rumors are swirling on whether that’s because Trump is unwilling to record one, or if it’s because Disney doesn’t want to alienate some of their visitors over the controversial president.

Toy Story  //  Disney has announced that they will announce the opening of Toy Story land at D23.  I’ll be there!  When do you think we’ll see it opening?

Magic Kingdom  //  Could the Jungle Cruise be changing?  Surveys were sent out to some Disney World visitors asking them what they liked about the attraction, what they disliked, what changes they might want, etc. These surveys are often used as an indicator to Disney as to whether they should revamp an attraction.

Stitch Fix review – May 2017

Summer is coming, hooray!  I am one of those people who is usually freezing all the time, so when the weather turns warm I’m in a much better mood.  Even when it’s 90+ degrees out I’m happy because it reminds me of being in my favorite place (Disney World, of course!).  And summer means I can wear lots of dresses and skirts, which is my preferred look.  I don’t enjoy wearing pants if I can help it.  So of course for this beginning of summer fix I requested mostly dresses and skirts.

And my wonderful Stitch Fix stylist Julie picked out some beautiful pieces for me!  I got two dresses, two skirts, and a top.  If you’re not familiar, Stitch Fix is a subscription box service that has you fill out a style profile survey, and then they send you 5 clothing items to try on – you decide what to keep and what to send back!

41 Hawthorn Lilou Ruffle Neck Blouse – $54

This was kind of a cute shirt, but I found that it didn’t do a lot for me.  I’m not super into the more flowy shirts that seem to be fashionable lately.  The scalloped sort of edges around the neckline were kind of fun, but it just didn’t feel very me.  Plus, for $54 I didn’t find it to be anywhere near worth the money for this one.  Returned.

Renee C Cally Pencil Skirt – $48

I can see why the above top was included, because it matched this pencil skirt really well.  I own 2 other pencil skirts, and I’ve decided the style just isn’t for me.  I just find that it tends to bunch up easily (see above photo), I’m constantly pulling them down, and they make me a little self-conscious of having some tummy.  The pattern was cute though.  Returned.

Gilli Morgen Printed Skirt – $54

Stitch Fix is cool because they send me items that match my style really well and that I would normally gravitate towards in a store, but it also pushes me out of my comfort zone.  This skirt is definitely the type of thing that I would be drawn to if I was out shopping.  The pattern and colors are fun, I love the style, and the fabric is super soft and smooth.  In fact, I’m wearing it right now.  Kept.

Gilli Ryland Knit 2fer Maxi Dress – $78

Remember how I talked about Stitch Fix pushing me out of my comfort zone?  I had always been against maxi dresses, but last year Julie sent me one that I totally fell in love with.  And I got another one this fix that’s also a total winner.  I love the fun pattern on the skirt and the solid top part.  It’s beautiful and I already wore it on vacation when we visited some of the Williamsburg area wineries.  It was the perfect outfit for a day out at the winery.

41 Hawthorn Evander Dress – $68

I really wanted to like this dress.  And I did out of the box, and on the hanger.  But I think I’ve discovered that I’m also just not a fan of dresses with an elastic waistband and how they look on me.  I don’t know if I just have a weirdly shaped torso or what, but the elastic never seems to hit the right spot.  I always feel like I end up with a lot of baggy fabric on the top.  I can get it to look okay for one picture, but it’s not a comfortable or flattering look to actually wear around all day.  So despite liking everything else about it, I had to send this one back too.

I really love the two items I kept from this fix!  Julie was awesome as always.  I scheduled an earlier fix than usual for the beginning of July instead of the end of the month so I can hopefully get some more cute dresses!

If you’re interested in signing up for your own Fix, I would love it if you’d use my referral link – it would give me a $25 credit to use on a future fix, and doesn’t cost you anything.  I used a friend’s link when I signed up for mine so I could help her out, so I know it’s much appreciated!

Minnie Mouse Disney Bound

Minnie Mouse Disney Bound

If you’re into LulaRoe at all, you know how addicting it can be just to look through what people are selling.  I don’t buy much but I’m constantly browsing in case something hits me.  There is one style of skirt they make that I really like called the Madison, and when I came across the perfect Madison I knew I had to buy it.  With a red skirt and white polka dots of course it just screamed Minnie Mouse to me!  I bought it and planned a Disney Bound for my solo trip last February.

If you’re not familiar, Disney Bounding is a super fun way to show a little of your Disney passion without being over the top obvious about it.  Basically, Disney Bounding is when you dress in the colors or style of a certain character, but you use your every day clothes instead of a costume.  I’ve done Disney bounds as ElsaAnnaArielDorySnow White, Gaston, and Winnie the Pooh (blog post on that one still to come!).

Minnie Mouse Disney Bound - Disney in your Day

This one was a nice one to do because once I had the skirt, I was able to easily put together the rest of the outfit.  And with the classic Minnie Mouse ears, it was an easily recognizable and classic look.  I got a lot of compliments on it throughout my day at Magic Kingdom.

Unfortunately, with LulaRoe you just have to hope to find the perfect outfit.  The good news is that you can find similar style skirts with that same Minnie Mouse look on Amazon.  In fact, this one here looks pretty perfect!

The shirt was the easiest part.  You can use any black shirt that you might have.  This one I’m wearing came from Target, but you can get a simple black one online too.  Though I’m guessing most people probably already have a solid black top somewhere in their closet.

The mouse ears do a lot to complete the look, though if you were to do this Disney Bound on a day when you’re not actually in the theme parks you might not want to wear them to work!  However around Disney they’re totally fine and adorable.  These you can buy while you’re down in the parks.

I finished my outfit with black flip flops since that’s what I had in my closet and what is most comfortable for me walking around the parks, but if you get a pair of yellow flats it would be even more perfect!  Lots are available, but I like these bright yellow ones with the bow on them.

Minnie Mouse Disney Bound - Disney in your Day

These are all the basics you need for a Minnie Mouse Disney bound!  Really with just the skirt and shirt you’re good to go, but the more details the better.  Perhaps you can find some other things to add too, like a fun necklace or other jewelry items that would go well!

What do you think of this Minnie Mouse Disney Bound? Which classic Disney character would you want to do an outfit for?

Winnie the Pooh Disney Bound

I’ve become so interested by the idea of Disney Bounding that I now try to do it almost every trip I go on.  It’s a lot of fun to try and dress up like a character but wearing everyday clothing.  When we took our girls only trip last August it was a bit last minute, so I threw together a quick Disney Bound from what I had in my closet.

If you’re not familiar, Disney Bounding is a super fun way to show a little of your Disney passion without being over the top obvious about it.  Basically, Disney Bounding is when you dress in the colors or style of a certain character, but you use your every day clothes instead of a costume.  I’ve done Disney bounds as ElsaAnnaArielDorySnow WhiteGaston, and Minnie Mouse.

There are really only two parts needed for the most simple of Winnie the Pooh Disney Bounds, and that’s a red shirt and yellow/goldish bottom.  Because you know, the red shirt is basically all Pooh wears!  But you can certainly dress it up with additional accessories.  And if you have a group of friends, maybe they could put together some other related Disney Bounds (like Eeyore, Tigger, or Piglet!).

Do you have a plain red shirt in your closet?  If so, you’re halfway there.  A basic t-shirt is fine, though you can really do it in any style you want.  It’s more about the colors!  I got mine at Target, but you can get a super cheap one almost anywhere, including Amazon (which is always my preferred way to shop because I’m lazy and 2 day shipping is great!).

For the bottom I decided to go with a skirt (I’m a notorious pants hater.  I much prefer dresses and skirts).  This is the exact skirt I bought from Amazon, in the color “mustard.” I thought the color worked pretty perfectly and it was a cute, comfy, inexpensive skirt.

Because mine was last minute that was basically the extent of my outfit, but you could also add some details and accessories!  For instance, you could look at this cute honeybee necklace.  A cute headband or bow would be a great hair accessory, and add a nice pair of shoes and you’re good to go!

What do you think of this Winnie the Pooh Disney Bound?  What character from the 100 acre wood would you want to do a Disney Bound for?

Since I was getting this Fix before the D23 Expo and my Disneyland trip, I gave my stylist, Julie, a bit of a challenge – picking out some dresses and outfits that I could maybe use for Disney Bounding!  Anything that might remind her of a Disney character would be welcome.  I was excited to see what she picked out, and while everything was unfortunately not an ideal fit, I loved all of the styles and creative ideas she had.  Julie is awesome.

The first dress she sent was a vivid green and she suggested using it for a Disgust outfit from Inside Out.  I really liked the color, and the dress was pretty – the back was especially fun.  Unfortunately I didn’t like how it fit in the front.  It just seemed really baggy in the chest area.  I seem to have this problem a lot with dresses that have an elastic waist.  People say that it looks okay but it bothers me, and at the end of the day I’m the one who has to like the dress!  So while I did send this one back, I loved Julie’s idea of doing a Disgust outfit so much that I bought a different green dress to use for a Disney Bound.

COLETTE  Mali Skirt – $44

This skirt was pretty.  It was definitely my style.  I wasn’t totally in love with the pattern but I did like the bright colors.  However, it just felt a little bit too much like many other items I already have.  I probably have about 4-5 skirts this same exact style in different patterns, and I got a gorgeous skirt in a busy pattern from my May Stitch Fix that I absolutely love.  So while there was nothing really wrong with this one, it just didn’t call out to me so I sent it back.

41HAWTHORN Keziah Shirt Dress – $48

I loved, loved the color and pattern of this dress.  And it was a great price too!  The biggest downfall was that it had the same problem as the first dress in this fix, and that was the elastic waistband.  I just don’t seem to feel comfortable in those types of dresses, so unfortunately this one went back as well.

KAILEIGH Annabelle Knit Dress – $58

Julie suggested this adorable dress for a Minnie Mouse inspired look, perhaps with some red accessories.  And while that could work I already have a pretty great Minnie Disney Bound.  However, this dress totally screams 1950’s Disneyland to me.  If I ever get to attend a Dapper Day it would be absolutely perfect.  In fact, I ended up wearing it for my day in the parks for Disneyland’s 62nd birthday!  When I tried it on it fit perfectly.  I was absolutely in love and knew this dress would be a total keeper.  Love, love, love it!

GILLI Ryland 2fer Maxi Dress – $78

I’ve recently been getting more into maxi dresses so I was excited to see this pretty one in the box.  Julie said it reminded her of Anna from Frozen, and she was so right.  The colors are absolutely perfect for it.  And while the dress was very pretty, it just didn’t fit me quite right.  The way it draped on the top made it an awkward fit over my bust, and the skirt part was a bit too long.  I was a bit sad to send this one back, but unfortunately I did.

Overall I thought Julie did a fantastic job of sending me some Disney inspired clothing and I’m so thrilled with the one dress that I kept!  I hope she up for another challenge like this in the future because I’d love to see what else she can send my way.  I’m becoming a bit obsessed with Disney Bounding lately!

If you’re interested in signing up for your own Fix, I would love it if you’d use my referral link – it would give me a $25 credit to use on a future fix, and doesn’t cost you anything.  I used a friend’s link when I signed up for mine so I could help her out, so I know it’s much appreciated!

The LuLaRoe collection for Disney

Unless you’re rarely on Facebook, chances are you’ve heard of (and/or are addicted to) LuLaRoe.  This clothing company has a unique approach to the items they create.  They have a number of different styles of clothing and different patterns in these styles.  The catch is this: there are only a limited number of styles in each pattern, and they are distributed randomly to different sellers all over the country.  So the many people who sell LuLaRoe all have different inventory, which both makes shopping more challenging and more fun – it’s almost like a treasure hunt to find something you like!  Or an exciting surprise to see what your favorite LuLaRoe sellers have gotten recently.

They are most well known for their extremely soft leggings, but they also have a number of cute tops, dresses, and skirts.  By far the most exciting announcement for me though was when LuLaRoe partnered up with Disney to create the LuLaRoe collection for Disney.  You can find these items from any LuLaRoe seller who chooses to carry the Disney line.  One of my good friends, Kim, has been selling Lula for a year now, and she was able to get some cute Disney stuff – so of course I couldn’t resist!

One of the best things about LuLaRoe is that it’s all very comfortable clothing.  I’ve seen the Disney collection available in leggings, Randy (a three quarter length baseball style tee), Irma (an oversized hi-lo top that works well over leggings), the classic tee (my favorite top), Carly (a dress), and the Cassie (a pencil skirt).  I’m still praying we will see some Disney patterns for the Madison, which is my personal favorite skirt!

Wearing my Minnie Mouse Randy at the D23 expo!

When Kim got her Disney stuff I was so excited to check it out, and picked up two items to wear for the D23 Expo!  The first was a Randy shirt.  It had a pattern with Minnie Mouse on it and solid black sleeves.  I paired it with a plain black Azure skirt (also from LuLaRoe).  I really liked the Randy/Azure combo together!  And in the convention center, which could get pretty chilly, I was grateful for the ¾ sleeves.  It would also be perfect for those cooler days at Disney in Florida.

There are so many cute patterns of leggings that it is really hard not to buy tons of them, but I picked out my favorite from Kim’s collection.  There are a fun blue color with light yellow and pink Minnie Mouses that have a “sketch” feel to them.  I love the colors and think it’s a really fun design.  The leggings are ridiculously comfortable, and they are great for wearing in the theme park.  I wore them both at D23 and this past weekend in Disney World!  After sitting around for an hour to wait for fireworks I was very happy to be comfy and still rocking some Disney that night!

New LuLaRoe patterns on display at the D23 expo!

For the first few months most of the designs released were Mickey and Minnie themed, and there has been some super cute stuff!  At the D23 Expo there was a LuLaRoe booth, and we got a peek at some of the other patterns coming.  Some of these have already started hitting inventories – I’ve seen The Muppets, The Little Mermaid, and Bambi for sale already.  But there were some great other things we saw there too, including villains, Toy Story, Winnie the Pooh, and a really fun castle pattern that I’m dying to get.

I am excited (and my wallet is not!) to see all of the new things to come for the Disney Collection by LuLaRoe!  To see Kim’s offerings in both the Disney collection and the rest of LuLaRoe, be sure to join her facebook group and like her facebook page!

Do you enjoy LuLaRoe?  Is it something you’d like to try?  Which Disney pattern is your favorite?

KEEP Collective Disney bracelets

KEEP Collective Disney - Disney in your Day

Have you heard of the KEEP collective?  They make bracelets (as well as necklaces and some other jewelry) that you can completely customize with the different charms they offer.  You can make a lot of unique designs, but with the new Disney collection they’ve introduced you can bring even more magic to it!  I already have ideas for a number of different bracelets that I want, for both Disney and my other hobbies.  I thought I’d share some of my favorite Disney designs with you, though you can easily customize your own bracelet to suit your personality!

KEEP Collective Disney - Disney in your Day

The Disney collection itself has one bracelet with Mickey heads on one side and the “If you can dream it, you can do it” quote on the other side.  That’s the great thing about the KEEP bracelets – most of them are reversible so you can get multiple looks with one bracelet!  There are also 7 Disney specific charms in the collection.  I like to use them in conjunction with the other charms to create meaningful bracelets.

KEEP Collective Disney - Disney in your Day

This first design I made using the Disney bracelet and one of the Mickey charms from the Disney collection.  I also added two of their charms from their regular collections – the word “dream” and the two hearts.  You can buy it here.

KEEP Collective Disney - Disney in your Day

Then I played around with another to represent RunDisney.  They have letters, which is fun because you can spell out pretty much anything that way.  So I put the word “Run” surrounded by a 13.1 and a 26.2 charm for the Disney races I’ve done.  And then of course a Minnie Mouse charm to represent the Disney part that is such a big part of running for me!  You can find this design here.

KEEP Collective Disney - Disney in your Day

As a Disney blogger I really love this one.  Blogging is such a big part of my life, and I love the idea of having a bracelet to represent that.  I chose to make the word “blogger” with a Mickey head charm for the Disney part.  If you’re also a blogger they have tons of different charms that could work to represent your niche (a high heel for fashion, a suitcase for a travel blogger, running shoe, barbell, or sports icon for a fitness blogger, a piece of cake or tropical drink for a food blogger, etc.).  You could also just use the word “blog” to bring the price down a bit.  Customize your own version of this design here.

KEEP Collective Disney - Disney in your Day

Since Animal Kingdom is my favorite Disney park, I also wanted to make a creation to represent that park.  I used the collection’s edition palm tree band and added the letters “AK” for animal kingdom.  Then I included some animals like the elephant and flamingo, as well as a tree that looks like the tree of life.  Finally, I put the camera icon there since I love riding the safari and taking photos all over the park.  With this design you can really play around with which ones you want in gold and which ones in silver to make it look like what you want.  See the options for this design here.

There are tons of different designs you can make, Disney or otherwise.  Take a look at the KEEP website and tell me – what would your bracelet look like?  Here’s a guide to get you started if you don’t know where to begin!

KEEP Collective Disney - Disney in your Day

And if you do decide to purchase, I have a party I’m hosting for the next week – feel free to select Becky’s party when ordering from the KEEP Collective website – or for even more news and giveaways join our facebook group!

Tell me in the comments – what would you put on your own KEEP bracelet if you had the chance to get one?

Cosplay at the D23 Expo 2017

Before attending my first D23 Expo, I knew that people would get dressed up.  I imagined there would be lots of people in Disney t-shirts, Disney Bounding, and some costumes.  I had no idea the extent to which people would create the most amazing and incredible costumes!  Many of these cosplays (a term that comes from the words “costume” and “play”) are literally works of art.  I was blown away by the creativity that went into so many of the Cosplay at the D23 Expo.  While I didn’t get nearly enough photos of all of the amazing cosplayers there, I at least grabbed some that I’d love to share on the blog.

Let’s take a look at the Cosplay at the D23 Expo:

Cosplay at the D23 Expo - Disney in your Day

One of the coolest and most intricate costumes I saw was this woman who created Big Thunder Mountain.  It was so detailed, and there was literally a train running through her outfit!  I don’t know how you not only get the idea to do this, but you also can actually design and build it.

Cosplay at the D23 Expo - Disney in your Day

I love Zootopia and these adorable Judy Hopps and Clawhauser costumes!

Cosplay at the D23 Expo - Disney in your Day

If you’ve got an ECV, it might just be more opportunity to spruce it up and incorporate it into a costume!  This gentleman has the pirates outfit, but his ECV was amazing. It was a well detailed pirate ship.  The little cannons actually lit up and blew smoke too!

Cosplay at the D23 Expo - Disney in your Day

There was a large group of all of the Princesses dressed up in wedding gowns.  They were very busy so I couldn’t get a shot of all of them together, but I managed this one of Tiana on her own.  With Wheezy hanging around in the background, of course.

Cosplay at the D23 Expo - Disney in your Day

A whole bunch of fun and creative costumes here, but I especially loved the Pixar ball gown!  Such a clever idea to do it with a dress that has a hoop skirt, so that it really looks more like the Pixar ball.

Cosplay at the D23 Expo - Disney in your Day

There were a number of Mary Poppins costumes, but this one was definitely the most adorable one I saw at D23.  Complete with umbrella!

Cosplay at the D23 Expo - Disney in your Day

Who would think to do a costume of LEGO Jack Skellington?  This guy did!

Cosplay at the D23 Expo - Disney in your Day

If you’re dressed as Spiderman, you really need to get into the spirit of things by perching on walls and fences.

Cosplay at the D23 Expo - Disney in your Day

A beautiful blue fairy cosplay and a pretty accurate looking Ghepetto complete the look with a puppet version of Pinocchio!

Cosplay at the D23 Expo - Disney in your Day

These costumes of Chernabog and two centaurs from Fantasia were very elaborate – I can’t imagine what it must have been like to walk around in these ones!

Cosplay at the D23 Expo - Disney in your Day

I only caught this one as we were waiting on line to get in, so unfortunately things were moving and I couldn’t get a photo of the full effect.  But this woman had an old-school style “VHS” box of The Lion King as her costume.  And it actually opened to see a “VHS” inside!

This is just a very small selection of some of the amazing cosplays I saw at the D23 Expo.  I was blown away and perhaps inspired to do something fun myself if I ever go back!

What’s your favorite of these Disney cosplays from the D23 Expo?

Stitch Fix Review – August 2017

$

This is the 19th Stitch Fix that I’ve received since I started getting them back in September 2014.  I usually only keep one or two clothing items, but I’ve obviously been pleased with the service to get it for so long!  If you’re not familiar, Stitch Fix is a subscription box service that has you fill out a style profile survey, and then they send you 5 clothing items to try on – you decide what to keep and what to send back!
Julie has been my stylist since the beginning (aside from one fix when she was on maternity leave) and she’s done a great job getting to know me but also getting me to try different things as well.  This time around I asked for some shirts and dresses – but no dresses with elastic waistbands, since I’ve found that doesn’t really work for me.  Let’s take a look at what Julie sent!

Renee C Revill Crew Neck Blouse – $48

This is a bold pattern, but I rather liked it.  However, I wasn’t crazy about the way that the shirt fit.  It was really cute in the back – there was a slit in the back and it was a hi-lo sort of design.  However, this shirt probably needed to be more fitted or something for me.  This is a little weird to describe but bear with me.  Chances are you’ll know what I’m talking about.  It’s one of those shirts that hits your boobs, and then never curves back in but just kind of hangs at the same distance that your boobs stick out, which is not a particularly flattering silhouette.  Returned.

LILA RYAN Avianna Cropped Denim Jacket – $78

Apparently the 90’s are back!  It’s been a long time since I put on a jean jacket.  The one that I had back in elementary school was also covered in awesome(?) patches.  I was cool, yo.  Anyway, I actually liked this a little more than I expected to.  The cropped look is cool, but I just don’t think denim jackets are really my style anymore.  And the sleeves were a little short when my arms weren’t down by my sides.  I’m glad to have tried it though, since I love Stitch Fix for pushing me outside of my comfort zone!  Returned.

Loveappella Atherton Lace Sleeve Knit Top – $48

I was super on the fence about this one because it’s cute, and it fits well, but it’s also a bit plain for a $48 shirt.  It was very soft and fit well, and the sleeves and very cute.  It matched the skirt it came with.  Ultimately I decided not to keep it due to both the price and the color.  I have a lot of navy blue in my closet already, and not a ton of bottoms that match well with navy blue.  Returned.

Loveappella Livia Crochet Detail Skirt – $48

I liked some things about this skirt but not others.  I really liked the colors – it was a dark gold with navy blue and white, which are colors you don’t see combined all that often.  But ultimately I decided to pass on this skirt.  It was a little on the short side, and I wasn’t crazy about the crochet detail.  As someone who works in a library, I want to try and avoid that “old lady librarian” look, haha.  Although it doesn’t stop me from wearing cardigans all the time.  Returned.

Skies are Blue Stacy Knit Swing Dress – $58

So I wasn’t totally blown away by this dress, but this is the item I ended up keeping.  It’s a color that’s a little bit different than other stuff in my closet, and it fit well.  I also think it will be a good dress for fall, and one that can transition to winter.  I could definitely see adding some leggings, boots, and a sweater to have a dress I can wear in the winter too!  Kept.
Overall this fix felt a little bit underwhelming, but I think I’m just being more picky.  The shirts, dress, and skirt are all my style in terms of patterns.  But I’ve been spending a bit more lately and didn’t want to spend the money for something I was only so-so on.  I think the dress is comfy enough that I’ll be wearing it a lot, so it’s a good investment!

Star Wars collection by Jamberry - Disney in your Day

Want a Star Wars manicure?  The new Star Wars collection by Jamberry is now available!   Back on May 4th Jamberry announced that they would be collaborating to make Star Wars nails, but didn’t say when they would be available.  The time is finally here!

If you’re not familiar with Jamberry, they are these fun nail wraps you can use instead of nail polish.  They are sticky and apply with heat.  I’ve found that they are quicker to put on than multiple coats of nail polish, and they last way longer – mine stay on for about 10 days, but I’ve heard people who don’t use their hands as much for work have them last 2 weeks or more!  Plus, you can get all sorts of cool patterns and designs that wouldn’t be possible with nail polish.

Star Wars collection by Jamberry - Disney in your Day

If you’re a Star Wars lover, who wouldn’t want some of these gorgeous themed Star Wars nails?  Let’s take a look at some of my favorites!  You can view all of the Star Wars wraps here, though I’m going to highlight the ones that I like the most.

Star Wars collection by Jamberry - Disney in your Day

First up: Dark vs. Light.  The different lightsabers are very cool looking, but the best part? They glow in the dark!  Throw in the wrap with two two different slogans (“Come to the dark side” and “May the force be with you”) and you’ve got a winning manicure.

Star Wars collection by Jamberry - Disney in your Day

Another one with three different designs in one manicure, Galactic Unrest features Star Destroyers, TIE fighters, and Rebel X-wings, as well as the rebel and alliance logos.  Set against a cool dark/light purple backdrop and I’m really digging these.

Star Wars collection by Jamberry - Disney in your Day

Everyone loves the little droid R2-D2!  I was definitely hoping for a wrap with him because I know all of his little details and buttons would be a cute one.  So I’m happy to see they did it!

Star Wars collection by Jamberry - Disney in your Day

Of course Princess Leia had to be represented, and she does so in style with the Rebel Princess wrap.

Star Wars collection by Jamberry - Disney in your Day

If you’d like something a little more subtle but still want to show the Star Wars love, the Star Wars wrap features the classic logo in fun colors set against a white background.

Star Wars collection by Jamberry - Disney in your Day

And finally, I have to give a shout-out to Boba Fett!  While he’s not my favorite, I know many are a fan of this bounty hunter.  And this wrap is the perfect way to show your love for him.

Those above are less than half of the Star Wars collection by Jamberry, and I’m already having a hard time narrowing down which ones I want to buy!  If you order between now and September 11th, select the party “May the Jamberry be with You.”  Everyone who orders through the party will be entered to win the host rewards, which might mean even more Jamberry for you!

Which of the wraps in the Star Wars collection by Jamberry are your favorite?

Joy and Fear Inside Out Halloween Costumes

Jason is a pretty good sport to put up with all of my Disney inspired Halloween costumes every year.  He’s been Flynn Rider, Mr. Incredible, and Wreck-It Ralph.  I keep telling him we could do a non-Disney costume but he never has any ideas, so back to Disney it is!  Especially since we attended Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party this year.

Inside Out has quickly become one of my favorite movies, and when I found a Joy dress in my size on clearance at Hot Topic I knew I had to buy it to use someday.  Surprisingly it wasn’t too hard to convince Jason to join me on the Inside Out theme!  He picked Fear as his character because he’s tall and skinny.  Of course he’s not really afraid of anything but he had a lot of fun pretending.

Maybe someday we can find people to be Sadness, Anger, and Disgust with us, but for now let’s take a look at how we put together our Joy and Fear Halloween costumes!

Joy

I was able to find a Joy cosplay dress at Hot Topic – in my size and on the sale rack, no less.  This was back in March, but I couldn’t pass up the chance to get it and hold on to it for the future!  It seems to go in and out of stock on Hot Topic, but you can also find it on Amazon.

Really the only other part I needed to complete the Joy look was blue hair!  I took what I thought was a little bit of a risk at the time by ordering a really cheap wig off of Amazon.  For less than $20, I thought it would look horrible.  But it actually ended up being perfect!  And for me, that was all I needed.  Joy was complete, easily recognizable, and a nice and light costume for the heat in Florida!

Fear

Hubby’s costume was slightly more complicated.  We started with pants and a shirt.  He found a basic blue striped shirt at Target – long sleeved, even though I told him if he wanted to “cheat” and do short sleeves because of the heat he could.  It’s hard to tell in the movie exactly what color Fear’s pants are, but because he himself is purple I thought dark purple pants would be the most fun.  And I just happened to have some!  They were women’s pants, but Jason actually fit into them so we were set.  You could easily just use black slacks if you have them, but Jason was dedicated.

One of the biggest details was the (sweater)vest that Fear wears.  We did a lot of searching but didn’t find quite the perfect item within our budget.  However, I thought that this checkered vest worked pretty well.  If you want to go all out and get the houndstooth vest for a little more money, Amazon has it here.  The finishing touch to the look was a red bow tie.

We opted not to do anything with his hair or skin.  The idea of purple face paint would have been a bit much, especially with the Florida heat!

I’m super pleased with how our Joy and Fear costumes came out, and I’m excited that we could wear them early this year and hopefully a couple more times in the future for some Halloween parties!

Take a look at some of our other Halloween costumes here:

Who are you planning to dress up as for Halloween this year?  Will you be a Disney character?

I shared earlier this month about the Halloween costumes that Jason and I did for this year – Joy and Fear from Inside Out.  Since we attended Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party in September we were able to use our costumes early enough to get photos so I could blog about them this year.  But last year we didn’t wear our costumes until it was actually Halloween, so I figured I would save the blog post about them for this year when it’s more relevant!

Wreck-It Ralph is one of Jason’s favorite Disney movies, and one that I enjoy a lot as well, so it seemed like a fun idea to put together some Wreck-It Ralph costumes!  With the sequel to the movie coming out soon I’d guess we’ll only see more Ralphs, Vanellopes, and Felixes for Halloween next year.

It always seems like my costumes are easier to put together than Jason’s, but this year it was definitely reversed.  A lot of work went into my costume, while Jason’s was pretty easy to put together.  If you’re interested in our own Ralph and Vanellope costumes, here’s how we did it!

How we made our Wreck-It Ralph costumes:

Wreck-It Ralph

Ralph’s got it pretty easy – he wears a shirt and overalls, basically.  The shirt is kind of a reddish checked shirt, so anything similar to that would work.  I kept an eye out in a few places, including Goodwill, but I actually found this one at K-mart.  And yes, it was  woman’s shirt.  The colors and style seem to be more in for women right now.  It seems every Halloween costume Jason wears involves some sort of women’s clothing – my purple pants for Fear, women’s boots for Flynn Rider, this shirt…

If you look closely at pictures of Ralph he has a few buttons undone and a sort of greenish teal colored shirt underneath.  Jason already happened to have a t-shirt similar to that color so he just wore that.

The overalls were the trickiest thing to find because men don’t really wear them and women’s ones would be too short for Jason.  Plus most overalls you find are jean overalls.  Luckily like most things that are difficult to find it was Amazon to the rescue.  It wasn’t the perfect shade of brown, a little light, but they were a decent prize and the right size.  Put it all together and you’ve got Ralph!

Vanellope von Schweetz

My costume required a bit more DIY and craftiness.  There are lots of bits and pieces that go into Vanellope’s look.  I started with the leggings, one of her most unique pieces.  I bought a plain pair of white leggings and did the rest myself.  To get this look I used the following materials: painter’s tape, teal fabric spray paint, and a pink fabric marker.

I used the painters tape around the leggings to mark off everywhere I wanted it to stay white. You want to be very careful to completely cover the area with the tape so none of the teal paint seeps through.  Then I sprayed everything down on one side with the teal, waited until it was dry, and flipped it over and did the other side.  I think it took me about 2 bottles of the spray paint that I had gotten at Michael’s to do the whole thing.  Once everything was totally dry I went back and added the pink details with the pink fabric marker.

For Vanellope’s sweatshirt I got a bit lucky at Goodwill and found a sweatshirt that was about the right color.  It was a zip-up rather than a pull-over hoodie but I think either would work as long as it’s got the pockets in the front and a hood on the back.  Of course, it now needed the pink details.  I bought pink cord on Amazon.  For the pocket detail I cut small snips to thread the pink cord through and then secured it with hot glue.  For the hanging cords I cut the actual teal cords short and then tied the pink onto them, once again making sure everything held together with hot glue.

The leggings with the sweatshirt worked well, but there was still another detail to add to the outfit.  She has a little skirt (either dark brown or black, it’s hard to tell so either could work).  I used a sparkle running skirt in brown that I already had and I think it worked well.

Once the outfit was done there was still one big piece of the costume I needed to complete – her hair!  Her hair is covered in candy.  I made all of the hair candy myself.  I bought clay, the kind that hardens when you bake it, and made a variety of different “candy” in bright colors – sprinkles, circle sprinkles, peppermints.  I also bought actual gummy bears and left them out so they would get hard instead of sticky and used those as well.  I used super glue to attach them all to a bunch of bobby pins and hairclips.

It took awhile to assemble the outfit, especially putting in all of that hair candy, but I thought it came out pretty well!  The best part was I was able to reuse the majority of this costume a couple of months later as a running costume for the Enchanted 10k.

Overall I was pretty proud of these costumes.  Vanellope’s was one that I really did a lot of work on and made most of, and I was happy with how it turned out.  I don’t know if I’ll get another opportunity to wear it, but I still have all of the pieces!
