Disney Pandora - Disney in your Day

I always said I didn’t want a Pandora bracelet because the charms were so expensive – and I was afraid I would lose them!  But my husband got me one for my birthday last year and I just fell in love with it.  The charms are so pretty and they have such a big Disney collection!  All of my charms represent something or have meaning to me, so it’s a very special piece of jewelry.

And of course, when Pandora announces that they have new Disney charms coming out I get excited to see what they might offer!  So here’s a look at some of the new collections coming.  They said they would be available in March (which of course it already is!), and some of them are already available on the website.

Disney Pandora - Disney in your DayThe first set they shared is this pink Mickey collection.  Three beads with Mickey heads in various shapes and styles of pink.

Disney Pandora - Disney in your Day

More exciting to me are some more charms by some of our favorite movies and princesses!  These Tangled beads are super cute.  I love all the princess dresses, though I do’t have any yet (I don’t have any dangly beads and wonder if they would annoy me!).  And how cool is Maximus?  Love that they included him!

Disney Pandora - Disney in your Day

The other film getting some love here is Sleeping Beauty.  And when I first saw the one on the right I had a hard time telling what it was, but it turns out to be Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather.

Disney Pandora - Disney in your Day

Finally they shared new Tinkerbell, Ariel, and Winnie the Pooh charms.  These three are probably my favorite of the bunch!  I’m not a huge Tinkerbell fan but I love seeing the star shaped bead. I have so many round ones that I would love a little variety on my bracelet!

So what do you think of the new Disney Pandora charms overall?  My personal impression is that it’s very… pink.  I’m not a huge pink/feminine person and I prefer bolder, brighter colors.  So I’m not sure any of these make my “must buy” list but I imagine a lot of ladies will love them.  And I’m always a fan when they put out anything new Disney because it hopefully means more will be coming eventually too!

Edited to add:  Looks like there are also some Alice in Wonderland charms on the website that weren’t shown in the sneak preview they gave – and they are super cute so check those out as well!

Disney Bounding: Elsa’s Coronation Outfit

Elsa's Coronation Dress

One of the things we did for my Disney cocktail party was ask everyone to Disney Bound – if you’re not familiar, it’s when you wear normal clothing but in the color or style of a Disney character.  We had a lot of fun trying to guess who everyone was dressed as.  People kept asking me if I was a more obscure character.  And I said, “No, I’m an extremely popular character, just wearing a more obscure outfit!”

IMG_4071

For the party I went with Elsa’s coronation dress.  I was shopping at Target for something and found this dress and decided to work off of that.  I love the colors to Elsa’s coronation outfit.  And can I just say, I love this dress.  It works well with a sweater and leggings for the winter, and I think it’s going to be cute for summer/spring too.  It’s actually on clearance at Target here for only $8.98!  I’m contemplating buying it in red as well, that’s how much I love this dress.  Since it is on clearance I don’t know how long it will be around, so I found a similar one here on Amazon with long sleeves.

IMG_4075

One thing I love about this dress in particular is the little lace detailing on the shoulders and back.  You can’t see it with the sweater on, but when you take the sweater off it’s really cute.  Plus Elsa’s outfit has black shoulders and sleeves so I like that shoutout to it.

IMG_4074

In order to recreate the appearance of Elsa’s cape I actually already had the perfect outfit in my closet – a long cardigan that happened to be almost the exact same color as her cape!  I had gotten it in my Golden Tote a couple of months ago.  It was tough to find another sweater on Amazon that is that exact color, but I think this one comes pretty close.

Because it was winter when I was wearing this outfit, I paired it with black leggings and boots.  I’m a big fan of my black suede-esque boots and wear them all the time in the winter – so much so that they are getting pretty worn and I’ll probably have to replace them soon!

IMG_4072

Finally, to complete the look, I added a gold belt.  Elsa’s dress has a lot of detailing and I didn’t want to go overboard in recreating that, but she does have that lovely gold detail around the waist so I figured the belt would add a little extra oomph.

Do you like this outfit?  What Disney Bound do you think I should tackle next?

Disney News (1)

Is it just me or did March seem to fly by?  My personal life is so crazy right now – I’m playing a major part in a musical that opens on April 15th so rehearsals are getting intense right now.  I also have my first race since Disney – I’ll be running the Hershey 10k this Saturday.  And in Disney news, you might remember that I’m going back at the end of May.  Things have been so busy that I actually forgot about my 60 day out fastpass plus reservation date!  Luckily I got the reminder email but it is so unlike me to forget.  Usually I’m counting down the days til I can book!

From the Disney Parks blog

Disney News

  • Disney has recently rolled out special events to stay in the Magic Kingdom later or get there earlier, before the crowds.  Are they worth the price?
  • Big cruise news: Disney cruise line has announced two new ships!  They won’t be appearing until 2021 and 2023, but I’m so excited to hear about the plans in the next couple of years.
  • Flower and Garden festival is in full swing, and the Disney Food Blog has details and photos on all the food booth options!
  • Joy and Sadness from Inside Out are coming to do meet and greets in Epcot – I can’t wait to meet them!
  • Another new restaurant is opening in Disney Springs – D-Luxe burgers look pretty delicious!

Disney Rumors

Run Disney //  Rumor has it that RunDisney might be doing away with deferrals (the ability to register for a race in one year but then put it off until the following year if you can’t participate for some reason.  Given the price of Disney races and everything involved with getting there, I’m not super happy about this.

Extra Magic Hours  //  Because of the new “pay for extra time in the Magic Kingdom,” there’s a lot of speculation on what will happen with extra magic hours.  Currently the free extra magic hours for resort guests will continue to run, though rumors are flying that if this extra fee idea goes well we might see them disappear.

Hollywood Studios  //  One rumor I’m really excited about is that the whole area around MuppetsVision3D will be turned into a Muppet Courtyard – including a restaurant.  I love the Muppets so I would be thrilled to see this!

Melissa Sue over at Mouse on the Mind has been cracking me up with her comparisons of runway fashions to Disney villains!

Stitch Fix review – April 2016

Alice in Wonderland running costumes

For this month’s Stitch Fix I made an interesting request of my stylist.  I’ve been receiving and buying so many cute dresses and outfits and I absolutely love them – but I don’t know that I need a ton more.  So I decided to request something a little bit different from my usual style.  I asked my stylist to try and find clothing that was sexy without being provocative – maybe a little bit of a detour from my usual “cute” look.  I knew it was a rather vague and not easy request to fulfill, but I thought she did a great job!  Julie was my stylist again and she is great.  She also mentions that she reads the blog – so, hi Julie!  If you want to try Stitch Fix (and you can do so with my referral link!) I’d definitely recommend requesting her.

If you’re not familiar, Stitch Fix is a subscription box service that has you fill out a style profile survey, and then they send you 5 clothing items to try on – you decide what to keep and what to send back!

Let’s take a look at what I got!

Crescent Benatar Lace Applique Blouse – $44

IMG_4113

For the most part I liked this.  The detail on the top was nice, if the rest was a little plain.  It had a high neckline which I wasn’t sure was flattering, and also wasn’t sure if it was sexy.  So of course I asked the expert (my husband) and he said that for being a highly neckline it was for some reason “weirdly attractive.”  Despite that, I sent it back.  I did like it but I’m not sure I $44 liked it, especially compared to other stuff I got.

Collective Concepts Paddio Lace Inset Blouse – $54

IMG_4115

In theory I liked this top – in fact, I had pinned it on my Pinterest as something I was interested in (in a different color though).  I actually love bright, warm colors, but I’m not sure this yellow was the best look for me.  The fit was just a little bit big on me and the top was rather see-through so it was another one that would require a tank underneath.  For those reasons and the higher price point for a blouse I sent it back.

Papermoon Fatima Dress – $78

IMG_4122

This was another one that I had put on Pinterest – I love the style of it and the pattern!  I feel like it’s different from anything else I own.  I wasn’t sure how I felt about it on me when I put it on.  I need to wear a strapless bra with it which is a little bit of a downfall.  I liked it and my husband and friends all said it looked good so I kept this one.  Can’t wait til the weather gets warmer so I can wear it!

Brixon Ivy Bonita Dress – $88

IMG_4120

There were a lot of things I loved about this dress.  It fit really well and felt very comfy.  It’s also pretty.  But at the end of the day, it’s also $88 for basically a little black dress.  Jason felt it was too boring and too expensive, so it didn’t make the cut.

Papermoon Paulette Lace Detail Blouse – $48

IMG_4117

At first I wasn’t sure how I would feel about the floral pattern, but in person once I tried it on I really liked it!  This one is something different and I really like the lace detailing at the top too.  My favorite things I get from Stitch Fix are those that I feel like I haven’t seen in stores or could get something similar for less money.  So this one was a keeper!

If you’re interested in signing up for your own Fix, I would love it if you’d use my referral link – it would give me a $25 credit to use on a future fix, and doesn’t cost you anything.  I used a friend’s link when I signed up for mine so I could help her out, so I know it’s much appreciated!

Tiana running costume - Disney in your Day

Most of my Disney friends know that Belle is my favorite princess, but what many people might not know is that Tiana is a very close second.  I love Princess and the Frog and I think Tiana is a great character, so when I was deciding which princesses I wanted to dress up as this year for the Enchanted 10k I knew Tiana would be at the top of my list!  I didn’t actually make anything for this costume, but I got bits and pieces from some of my absolute favorite Etsy shops and running companies, so I wanted to share where all of the pieces came from!

Tiana running costume - Disney in your Day

Tank top

Since Tiana’s top half of her dress doesn’t have a particularly recognizable style to it, I decided to just go with something that would be the same color and have something Tiana about it.  I chose the water lily tank from Raw Threads because their shirts are just so comfy to run in!  And it worked well with the rest of my outfit.

Tiana running costume - Disney in your Day

Tutu

This one came from Etsy seller Tutu da Loo, and it’s seriously the most amazing Tiana tutu I have seen.  I got so many compliments on it and people remarking on the detail and how much it looks exactly like Tiana’s dress. I got the chance to meet Tiana herself while wearing it and she said she really liked my outfit!

Tiana running costume - Disney in your Day

Headband

Tiana’s got a pretty cool headpiece, but I never thought it would be possible to replicate it for a running costume.  That was until Vicky from Vicky’s Closet sent me this Tiana running headband!  It looks amazing and is seriously so comfortable.  I hardly noticed I had it at all.

Tiana running costume - Disney in your Day

Other

There wasn’t too much more needed to complete this outfit, other than my typical running items.  I paired white compression socks with it and my gray flipbelt.  I also wore gray shorts under the tutu, as you need something underneath!  I had brought green leggings but felt it was warm enough that I wanted shorts instead.

New Disney by Jamberry nails – Mickey and Friends, Bambi, and Snow White!

Disney by Jamberry - Disney in your Day

A couple of months ago I was so excited when Jamberry released new Disney licensed nail designs.  Those ones included designs with Minnie Mouse, The Little Mermaid, and Sleeping Beauty.  And it seems we’ll be seeing plenty more Disney by Jamberry designs coming up, as they’ve now released another batch.  This one features Mickey and friends, Bambi, and Snow White.  Plus they now have junior nail designs for the kids as well!

If you’re not familiar with Jamberry, they are these fun nail wraps you can use instead of nail polish.  They are sticky and apply with heat.  I’ve found that now that I’ve worn them a couple of times they are quicker to put on than multiple coats of nail polish, and they last way longer – mine stay on for about 10 days, but I’ve heard people who don’t use their hands as much for work have them last 2 weeks or more!  Plus, you can get all sorts of cool patterns and designs that wouldn’t be possible with nail polish.

Disney by Jamberry - Disney in your Day

The Mickey and Friends collection includes designs with Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Daisy.  They are Dog Gone (Pluto and Mickey), Ear to Ear (Mickey and Minnie), Ear to Ear Jr., Gal Pals (Minnie and Daisy Jr.), Love at Sea (Donald and Daisy nautical theme), and Smack! (a cute Mickey and Minnie kissing one).

Disney by Jamberry - Disney in your Day

Mickey Mouse collection includes Dots so Mickey (a red one with Mickey and polka dots), Dots so Mickey Jr., Oh Boy! (a clear Mickey design that can be layered over whatever color you want), Oh Boy! Jr., Original Mickey Mouse (a cute sketch-like design), and Sparklin’ Mouse (black and gold Mickey).

Disney by Jamberry - Disney in your Day

The Bambi collection consists of It’s Purty (pink Bambi design), Oh Deer! (green with Bambi), Oh Deer Jr., The Little Prince (a more abstract gold design) and Thumper.

Disney by Jamberry - Disney in your Day

Finally, the Snow White collection has Heigh Ho (a pattern with Snow White and the dwarves), Just One Bite (Snow White and the apple), Just One Bite Jr., Pop Princess (a comic book like design with Snow White), and The Fairest (a gray design with Snow White).

Just a couple of things to note about the new Disney designs.  They are considered premiums wraps, which means that they cost $18 each and are not available for any discounts or promotions (including but not limited to buy 3 get 1 free, host rewards, product credits, etc.).  If you’re interested in purchasing and don’t already have a Jamberry consultant, I highly recommend you buy through my friend Stephanie’s shop – she is super knowledgeable about everything Jamberry, friendly, and helpful!  If you buy them and need some tips/assistance in putting them on she will be happy to help you out!

So far the ones that stand out to me the most are The Fairest, Oh Boy!, Smack!, Original Mickey Mouse, and Sparklin’ Mouse.  I don’t know if I’ll be able to afford them all but I’ll get at least one or two!

Alice in Wonderland running costumes (1)

It’s been cold around here for so long that I never thought the time would come where I could wear dresses and short sleeves – but now we’ve got a heat wave going on here in Pennsylvania and I was super excited to get some new summer clothes in my latest Stitch Fix!  I got some really cute things this time around and this month is probably the most indecisive I’ve been on what to keep!  I actually don’t have to check out until tomorrow, so maybe you can help me figure out what to keep…

If you’re not familiar, Stitch Fix is a subscription box service that has you fill out a style profile survey, and then they send you 5 clothing items to try on – you decide what to keep and what to send back!

Skies are Blue Dyllan Cold Shoulder Dress – $78

IMG_4860

This is the only thing I know I am 100% keeping.  For whatever reason I fell in love with this dress as soon as I saw it in the box.  The pattern is so “me” lots of bright colors and fun stuff going on.  Jason thought it was too busy, but my response to him was “I’M busy!”  I had asked from some cold shoulder options and I’m really happy with this one.

Skies are Blue Peverell Cold Shoulder Top – $54

IMG_4843

This one was another one a little bit out of my comfort zone with the big ruffle.  Jason felt it was very “hippie,” and he’s probably right, but maybe I like that style?  It’s very comfortable and fits well.  I just worry it’s one of those things that I like how it looks in theory, but I’m not sure I’d have the guts to wear it often.

Market and Spruce Elaine Ikat Print Pocket-Front Knit Shirt – $44

IMG_4851

The shirt itself in terms of the style is very simple and straight forward, but I’m a fan.  I like the print and colors a lot, and how it goes well with my $8 yellow shorts from Primark!  It’s also very soft and comfy, so I’m leaning towards keeping this one.

THML Jaye Cutout Shoulder Top – $44

IMG_4848

I’m not sure how I feel about this one!  I think it’s a little boring for my tastes if it wasn’t for the shoulder cut-outs, which are kind of cool.  I’m just not sure it does much for me?  The pattern and colors aren’t very “me” either.

Fate Portola Lace Detail Blouse – $48

IMG_4841

This would be the shirt I’m probably most on the fence about.  I really like the color and the lace detail on top.  I feel like it would be versatile enough to go with a lot of things.  My only concern is that it’s just a little tight in the back.  Not really in the front oddly, just on my back.  I’ve also kind of spent a lot of money recently so I’m not sure that this top is worth the price for me right now.  The detailing is really cute though!

I think my stylist Julie did an amazing job picking out stuff for me again this month.  If you’re interested in signing up for your own Fix, I would love it if you’d use my referral link – it would give me a $25 credit to use on a future fix, and doesn’t cost you anything.  I used a friend’s link when I signed up for mine so I could help her out, so I know it’s much appreciated!

Dory Disney Bound

Findind Dory

When I went to see Finding Dory last weekend I decided to dress for the part, as well!  I threw together a last minute Disney Bound and I was pretty happy with how it turned out.  If you haven’t heard of Disney Bounding,  it’s basically when you wear normal clothing but in the color or style of a Disney character.  So I was able to throw together this Dory Disney Bound!

Dory Disney Bound - Disney in your Day

My dress was one that I had gotten from my latest Golden Tote – a plain but bright blue.  I said it was the perfect Dory color!  It’s always cold in movie theaters (at least I think so), so I knew I definitely wanted a cardigan to go with it.  However, I didn’t happen to have a yellow one.  I did a beige one instead but yellow would have been much more Dory-esque.Dory Disney Bound - Disney in your Day

For accessories I added a pop of that yellow color with my yellow wristlet that I got from Charming Charlie’s.  I give it a bit of an “under the sea” feel I wore a necklace (also from Charming Charlie’s) that says “dreaming of the sea” and has a blue starfish.  Finally, I just wore black flats for my shoes, since Dory has some hints of black in there as well.

In order to replicate my look I found some options on Amazon for you!

What do you think of my Finding Dory Disney Bound?  What other characters would you like to see?

Zazzle Disney shirts - Disney in your Day

I received free shirts from Zazzle in exchange for this review, but all opinions are my own.

When you walk around Disney World, one thing you’re sure to see is families in matching shirts.  Maybe a whole crew in bright orange shirts that say “Smith Family vacation” or shirts with matching Mickey heads.  However, being all matchy-matchy isn’t for everyone.  The good news is there are still lots of ways to put together cute coordinating outfits for Disney without wearing the same exact shirt!

Zazzle Disney shirts - Disney in your Day

When my friends and I went down for a girls trip, they didn’t want to do identical shirts (and that’s totally okay!).  But while searching on Zazzle I came across tons of different Disney designs that worked well together.  I spent so much time browsing their website and looking at all of the awesome designs.  They have pretty much every Disney character you can think of, and for most characters there are multiple designs.  Before we made our decision we also considered doing different princesses, some of the dwarves, Winnie the Pooh and friends, or just our favorites characters.

Zazzle Disney shirts - Disney in your Day

After looking through them all we decided to do some of the characters from Inside Out.  Each has their own design but they are the same style for each character.  I picked Joy, and my two friends were Sadness and Anger.  They also had the design for Fear, Disgust, and Bing Bong (which we may have to get for January when we are going back with more friends!)

One of the great things about Zazzle Disney shirts is that you can get their shirts in a variety of styles.  Short sleeves, tank tops, long sleeves, sweatshirts, women’s fit, etc.  So you can pick whatever you prefer.  We went with the basic t-shirt.  But once I got mine I actually played around with it a little and repurposed it into a tank top.  The design still looked good so you can see how it works on any style of shirt!  They were good, comfy shirts for walking around the theme parks.

Zazzle Disney shirts - Disney in your Day

Both of my friends loved the shirts and asked if we could wear them again in January (but probably over long sleeves for that trip!).  So we’ll probably do that again one day, and see if we can fit in a meet and greet with Joy and Sadness while we’re wearing them.

And now you can get an Inside Out shirt like ours!  Enter this giveaway for your chance to win your choice of Anger (M), Joy (M), or Sadness (XL).

Stitch Fix Review - October 2016

It’s been awhile since I’ve had a Stitch FixFor my May fix I ended up keeping everything in the box.  Because it was more than I normally spend on clothes I pushed back my next fix.  And then we were saving to go to Europe so I pushed it back even more.  Which means this is the first fix I’ve had in about 4 months, so I was excited to get back into it again!

Since we’d just come back from Europe I totally forgot to write any sort of note to my stylist.  Thank goodness that it was the same stylist I’ve had (Julie), and she’s so amazing and knows me so well that she sent stuff that I mostly really liked, fit my style, and was the sort of stuff I’d be hoping to get anyway!

Kut from the Kloth Benter Mixed Material Top – $58

img_6823

I’ve been in the process of cleaning out my closet recently, and one thing I am severely lacking is long sleeve shirts.  I don’t like really heavy long sleeved shirts because the temperature at work can change so much, but I still want some long sleeves for the winter.  This one fit the bill perfectly.  When I put it on, Jason said to me “I think you like that one.”  And I said, “Oh yeah, why do you think that?” And he said, “It just looks really you.”  It’s got a very pretty pattern so I’m happy to have received it, and this one is a keeper.

Pixley Francisco Mixed Material Top – $54

img_6825

Another one that I liked right out of the box and was happy once I tried it on, too.  It’s a pretty pattern, versatile in that it could be dressed up or dressed down, and fit well.  I kept this one too.

img_6827

I like that it’s different on the back as well.  Here’s where you can see the mixed material coming into play, as well as a cute cut-out.

41Hawthorn Shalley Split Neck Blouse – $48

img_6830

The style of this flowy tank top was okay, but I was not a fan of the pattern.  I’m really big on hot pink, and that combined with the stripes and the floral just felt like it had way too much going on.  I sent it back.

Market and Spruce Alan French Terry Asymmetrical Zip Cardigan – $37

img_6832

When I looked at what I had received in this box, I’ll be honest – I was most excited about this sweater because it was $37.  That’s one of the cheapest things I’ve ever seen from Stitch Fix, and especially for a sweater I thought it was a good price.  I’m so glad I liked it once I tried it on, too!  It’s a pretty heavy one, which will be good for the upcoming season, and it’s super soft too.  I really like how it looks open, but I’m still on the fence about the zipped up look.

img_6834

I think it could work if you have the right top on underneath.  I do like that I can create two different looks with it, and I have a feeling it will get a lot of use.

Collective Concepts Marci Dress – $78

img_6838

First of all – yes, my cat wanted to model with me.  Samwise was very intrigued by what we were doing, particularly with going outside to shoot!  He meowed at the screen door so I decided to grab him for a photo!  I think he’s probably more photogenic than I am 😉

Out of the box I liked this dress.  The pattern and style are definitely me.  I liked it once I tried it on, too, but I don’t know that I was in love with it.  It fit well but a lot of times dresses with an elastic waist can look a bit off on me, especially as the elastic moves around during daily activities.  It was also a very light dress, clearly a sundress, which meant that if I kept it I probably wouldn’t be able to actually wear it for another 7 or 8 months.  In the end I liked it, but I didn’t $78 like it, so I sent it back.

Overall I’m super happy with this fix, especially considering that I didn’t give any notes this time around!  Julie has really gotten to know me and my style.  With the exception of the pattern on the tank top, everything really felt like it worked for me.  I’ll be looking forward to my next fix in two months!

If you’re interested in signing up for your own Fix, I would love it if you’d use my referral link – it would give me a $25 credit to use on a future fix, and doesn’t cost you anything.  I used a friend’s link when I signed up for mine so I could help her out, so I know it’s much appreciated!

Disney villains Jamberry - Disney in your Day

Earlier this year Jamberry released new officially licensed Disney nails, and I’m totally hooked.  But now they’ve released a new series of Disney villains, and these are so cool looking that my wish list just got a whole lot longer!

Definitely check out the site and browse all of their Disney nails, but for now let’s take a closer look at the villains nails:

Disney villains Jamberry - Disney in your Day

Just a Touch of Evil – this Snow White/Evil Queen wrap has cool colors, and I love the poisoned apple background.

Disney villains Jamberry - Disney in your Day

One Bad Apple – not only does this wrap look awesome, it glows in the dark!!  If my nails were longer this would be my top choice.

Disney villains Jamberry - Disney in your Day

The Reflection of Evil – Love the colors here, and that one wrap is purple while the other is black.

Disney villains Jamberry - Disney in your Day

Unfortunate Souls – This one is at the top of my list.  Love the color and that it has both Ursula and Ariel!

Disney villains Jamberry - Disney in your Day

Sea No Evil – Another Ursula option.  A really spooky one that also has Flotsam and Jetsam and some of her unfortunate souls.

Disney villains Jamberry - Disney in your Day

Mistress of All Evil – I love this design – I so wish this one had been available when I did my Maleficent running costume for the Disneyland Paris half marathon!  This one also comes in a juniors version for kids.

Disney villains Jamberry - Disney in your Day

Simply Spellbinding – if you prefer Maleficent with her purple coloring, this is another great one.  Plus it has Aurora too!

Disney villains Jamberry - Disney in your Day

Kinda Cruel – For Cruella DeVil fans, this one not only has Cruella but one of the puppies.

Disney villains Jamberry - Disney in your Day

You Fools – for the truly Cruella Crazy, this one is fun – plus I like the wrap that comes with it without her face on it a lot too.  A fun one to mix and match.

Disney villains Jamberry - Disney in your Day

Painting the Roses Red – for Alice fans, this design has some roses, the Queen of Hearts, and Alice on them!

Disney villains Jamberry - Disney in your Day

Yes, Your Majesty – this one is in the style of the Queen of Hearts’ dress.  I think it’s great – it has her colors and patterns and would be awesome for Disney Bounding!

Giveaway time!

And I have a special offer for you!  If you make a purchase before the end of November 2016 through my party link, you’ll be entered into a giveaway for one free half sheet of a villains wrap of your choice!  Just order through my friend Stephanie’s shop and click “Becky’s Online Party” when you check out!  Everyone who orders anything through my party by the end of the month will be entered to win.

LipSense review - Disney in your Day

I will be the first to admit I’m not hugely into makeup.  I consider myself a “casual make-up wearer” – if I have time in the morning I’ll slap on a few basics, but otherwise I’m usually only wearing it when I’m going out for a special occasion or performing in a show.  Which means I don’t know a lot when it comes to makeup!

One of the things I’ve kind of avoided when it comes to makeup is lipstick.  The ones I had either didn’t hold their color at all, felt really thick and weird, it would smudge everywhere, or they never looked right when I applied them.  It wasn’t usually worth the effort for me.  I usually only wear lipstick when I’m on stage, and maybe a lip gloss other times.

LipSense review - Disney in your Day

I’d heard a lot of buzz about LipSense, but not being a makeup person I wasn’t sure what to expect.  When Deena asked me to try it out though I was kind of excited because there are so many gorgeous colors – it took awhile for me to pick which one I wanted!  I like something pinkish but still natural looking for everyday wear, so I went with honey rose.  Let’s take a look at all the various things that matter when wearing a lipstick:

Application
The application process for LipSense is a bit unique.  It’s a liquid lipstick and you apply a thin layer 3 times, waiting about 10 seconds in between.  You don’t rub or touch your lips together, or go back around to fill in the gaps.  It also tingles when you put it on!  Then you end the application with a layer of the gloss.  It was actually quite easy for me to put on once I read the directions fully.

LipSense review - Disney in your Day

Appearance
The color I picked, honey rose, was stunning in person!  I absolutely loved it.  It’s natural enough so you don’t super standout, but it’s really pretty.  And I love how the gloss top coat gives it this nice, shiny look.

Smudge-free
It was kind of amazing to me how much this lipstick didn’t smudge.  Like, at all.  I put it on before I left for brunch and then my husband kissed me goodbye.  Like I said, I don’t wear lipstick very often and he was immediately like, “Oh no, did I get lipstick on me?” But there wasn’t a trace on him and mine was still in place.  And later at brunch it didn’t leave any sort of mark on the coffee cup or bellini glass.  Considering my last water bottle was covered in lipstick from the musical I was in, this is a huge improvement!

LipSense review - Disney in your Day

Long Lasting
So the biggest question – did the color actually last throughout the day?  I’m happy to say for the most part, it did!  The color itself lasted for at least 8 hours (that’s when I took it off so I don’t know if it would last even longer!).  The gloss faded after maybe 3 or 4 hours.  So if you really like the glossy look, you might want to reapply that halfway through the day.  But that’s just one coat so it’s a lot easier to throw on quickly!  I was impressed to still see color when I got home from brunch to be honest, so I’m very pleased.

LipSense review - Disney in your Day

Selection
The options are huge!  So many great choices I’m gonna be poor, haha!  And the exciting thing is that they keep releasing new colors as well, particularly to go with the holidays.  Recently we’ve seen nutmeg, gingerbread, and pumpkin spice released as options.

Overall I’m now a big fan of LipSense.  I plan to buy more.  I got a number of compliments the days I wore it that I looked pretty or beautiful, and I think the LipSense was part of that – not just that the lipstick is pretty (which it is!) but that wearing it makes me feel prettier too!

Are you interested in getting some LipSense of your own?  The easiest way to order is through my friend Deena Marie.  You can join her facebook group to get all the latest updates and giveaways (if you join the group, post and tell her Becky from Disney in your Day sent you!).  You can also email her at lularoedeenamarie@gmail.com.  The LipSense colors are available for $25 each, and the gloss is $20, and they are definitely worth it (and this coming from a generally non-make up person!).

Have you tried LipSense?  Which color do you think would be your favorite?

How to dress when running in the cold

running in the cold - Disney in your Day

This post is sponsored by FitFluential LLC on behalf of Mizuno. All opinions are my own.

I won’t lie, I hate the cold.  I’d move to Florida if it wasn’t for my job and my friends and family all being here.  So when it comes time to do run training in the winter, it’s tough for me to get out there.  I’ll often do my shorter runs during the week at the gym on the treadmill, but for the longer weekend runs I can’t stand being on the treadmill that long.  So I have no choice but to bundle up and get out.

In order to stay warm I’ve at least got some good tips after a number of cold winters here in Pennsylvania!  Here are my favorite ways to dress when you have to run out in the cold:

Pants

I like a long pair of pants to keep me warm in the cold!  The ones that I have are warm and comfortable, but the best part for me is that they have pockets!  So I don’t have to wear a belt or anything to carry stuff with me.

running in the cold - Disney in your Day

Long sleeve shirt

A long sleeve shirt to keep you warm during the winter is a must.  I love to have them because they are so versatile – you can wear just the long sleeve shirt when it’s above freezing, and then use it as a base layer with a jacket overtop when it’s below 32 degrees.

running in the cold - Disney in your Day

My go-to now is the Mizuno Breath Thermo Base Layer Crew.  I was curious to see how well it would work when I first tried it on – it feels really lightweight and I wasn’t sure if it would actually keep me warm.  But it does an amazing job!  It uses their new breath thermo technology, which is specifically designed to generate heat and keep you dry (I’m normally covered in sweat but this did a pretty good job!).  Plus it’s so pretty in this gorgeous pink and purple color!  I know I’ll get a ton of use out of it for the fall, all through the winter, and the beginning of spring so it’s a great investment.

running in the cold - Disney in your Day

Jacket

Once it hits around 35 degrees I definitely want a jacket over my long sleeve shirt to keep me warmer.  I have a couple of different ones that I really like, and I’ll use various jackets based on how cold it is out there.  I have lighter ones and heavier ones.

Gloves

I find that if my hands get cold, all of me feels much colder.  That’s why gloves are a must.  I have this pair of Mizuno Breath Thermo Warmalite gloves, made from the same stuff that my long sleeve shirt is made of.  Not only do they keep my hands nice and warm, they have a touchscreen capable forefinger that actually works!  I’ve had other gloves which claimed to be touchscreen capable but it was hit or miss.  This one was consistent in working.running in the cold - Disney in your Day

Hat

Aside from my fingers, the other main thing I need to keep warm is my head – or specifically, my ears!  I always wear a hat if it’s going to be under 50 degrees.  I like this style from Bondi Band which also has a cutout hole in the back for ponytail.

There are lots of great things to wear when it’s cold out, and thanks to that I don’t have to make excuses when it comes to running in the cold.  Well, I might still try, but I can ultimately get out there and get it done without too much complaining…

Stitch Fix review – December 2016

stitch-fix-review

Perhaps with all of the Christmas shopping going on December isn’t the best time to schedule a Stitch Fix, but I did need some new winter clothes so I was glad it came!  I had requested long sleeve tops and dresses this time that would be appropriate enough for work but also comfortable enough for my new hands-on job.

For every fix I’ve always had Julie as my stylist (except for one when she was on maternity leave) and she is the best!  I’m so lucky to have her.  She wrote the sweetest note this month, saying how excited she gets when she sees my name pop up and how she looks forward to styling me!  And as usual, she did a great job.

Gilli Trista Faux Wrap Jersey Dress – $68

img_7202

This is the item I was most on the fence about.  I liked how the dress looked on.  But I didn’t LOVE it.  And for $68 around Christmas time when spending is particularly high, I knew it needed to be something I loved.  The pattern was pretty but I feel like there are other pretty dresses for me down the line. I think it photographed better than it looked in real life too, which sometimes happens with these stitch fix items.  Returned.

Le Lis Ertah Crochet Sleeve Knit Top – $54

img_7188

The first thing I noticed about this out of the box was the color, which I loved.  Orange is my favorite color and I love all shades of it, from a peachy coral to burnt orange.  When I first saw it I was afraid it was too boring but then I saw the sleeves, which I loved!  It fit well so I kept this one.  I actually wore it to work yesterday and got several compliments on it already!

Pixley Martina Slub Knit Open Cardigan – $48

img_7194

This was cute.  I love the “slub style” of these types of cardigans.  It was just plain black which is an important staple, but I already have two black cardigans.  At this point I don’t really need another so I ended up sending this one back.

Pixley Greenich Striped Knit Top – $48

img_7192

So there were a couple of things I liked about this one.  I do like the stripes and the colors.  I already really liked the fact that it was a longer top because I’ve been looking for more of those.  It works well for casual wear or work.  The one thing holding me back a little was the elbow patches.  I’m not sure how I feel about those.  But Jason really liked this top so that and the fact that I really need more long sleeve tops sold me on keeping it!

Pixley Dexter Faux Wrap Dress – $68

img_7199

This dress was really similar in style to the other dress, as they were both wrap dresses.  However, I didn’t like how this one fit as much.  The material was thicker on this one and seemed to accentuate more of my lumpy places in a way I didn’t like, haha.  The pattern was all right but if I had kept a dress this time around it definitely would have been the other one, so I sent this back.

If you’re interested in signing up for your own Fix, I would love it if you’d use my referral link – it would give me a $25 credit to use on a future fix, and doesn’t cost you anything.  I used a friend’s link when I signed up for mine so I could help her out, so I know it’s much appreciated!

Maleficent running costume - Disney in your Day

I love planning costumes for RunDisney events.  I’m not much of a sewer but I make a few items or put costumes together based on things I already have and stuff I find.  For the Disneyland Paris half marathon I put some thought into who I wanted to run as.  I definitely wanted to do a non-princess since I like to save the princess characters for the Princess half.  I also wanted to do something from a movie set in France.  After some thought I picked my first villain – Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty!

Maleficent running costume - Disney in your Day

I actually already had a Maleficent skirt from Etsy seller Run Princess Run.  It’s a gorgeous skirt with lots of glitter detail and the perfect colors to represent Maleficent.  I like the fact that they style of this skirt is different from a lot of the other costumes you see at RunDisney events.  It’s not one of the sequin glitter skirts and it’s not a tutu either.  It was very comfy with a pair of running shorts underneath!

Maleficent running costume - Disney in your Day

For my shirt I went with a favorite, Raw Threads.  They make cute character shirts and their shirts are so comfortable that if they have a shirt for a character I’m doing I usually just go with that.  Their Maleficent shirt says “Evil Fairy” on the front and has a cool design on the back too.  I managed to grab it during one of their sales which was really nice as well, since their stuff can be a bit pricey.

Maleficent running costume - Disney in your Day

Of course, what really makes the Maleficent look is the horns!  I managed to find an affordable but comfortable headband with small Maleficent horns sewn in from Etsy shop Chicky Bands.  She really has the best running headbands and I’m hoping to get more from her for future costumes!  This headband was just perfect.  It was so comfortable, a wider one (which I prefer) and nailed the look.  I got a lot of compliments on it.  It was also so much easier to run in than a couple of other Maleficent costumes I saw, which had the huge horn hats that you can buy in the parks.

Maleficent running costume - Disney in your Day

My finishing touches were basically just my sock and sneakers!  I went with my purple compression socks (reused from my Esmeralda costume!).  I was also very lucky that my current running sneakers happened to be green and purple and match my running costume quite well.  Totally not why I bought them…

Anna Disney Bound

Anna Disney Bound

Disney Bounding is a super fun way to show a little of your Disney passion without being over the top obvious about it.  Basically, Disney Bounding is when you dress in the colors or style of a certain character, but you use your every day clothes instead of a costume.  I’ve done Disney bounds as Elsa, Ariel, Dory, Snow White, Gaston, and Winnie the Pooh (blog posts on those ones still to come!) and now I’ve decided to do Anna from Frozen.

Anna Disney Bound - Disney in your Day

Anna is a great one to do for a Disney Bound because she has several distinct colors that you can easily replicate, often with stuff you already have in your closet.  I put together an Anna Disney Bound that I can not only wear out, but that is also work appropriate to add a little Disney into my work day!  Here’s how I put it together:

Anna’s look is very well defined with a black top, blue skirt, and pink cape.  I chose a simple black t-shirt as the basis for the top half of my outfit.  I wear a solid black top quite often so I should probably pick up another one – they just go well with everything, especially when I have skirts with fun patterns and I don’t want to do anything too crazy on the top!  This top is from Old Navy, but you can find something similar at Target or on Amazon.

For the skirt I chose to wear a blue pencil skirt.  The pencil skirt style makes it great to wear to work, but you could easily do another type of skirt or even blue pants.  My skirt is very comfortable, and it’s a bright blue one that I got from LuLaRoe.  If you know how LuLaRoe works you know that it would be pretty difficult to find the same one I’m wearing, but luckily I found a lookalike from Amazon if you’re interested!

Anna’s pink cape brings a little more personality into her look, so I’ve decided to represent that by wearing a pink cardigan.  Mine is from Target but you can find a similar one on Amazon.

Finally, a couple more little details can make things look even more “Anna.”  If I’m wearing this in the winter I pair it with black boots, which is really ideal since Anna wears boots in the movie!  But in the warmer weather I’ll do black flats.  You can add other small details like a snowflake necklace to represent the frozen land of Arandelle.  I also got these amazing Anna style Jamberry nails!

What do you think of my Anna Disney Bound?  What’s another character you’d love to see a Disney Bound outfit for?

How to make a Megara running costume

Megara running costume - Disney in your Day

Choosing a running costume for the Disney World marathon required a lot of thought and debate for me.  This was big – the marathon! – so I wanted to pick a character I really liked.  Running the marathon also represented strength and courage, so I wanted to pick a Disney character who also represented those things.  I was looking for a strong female character, and after thinking about a few options I decided on Megara from Hercules.

Megara running costume - Disney in your Day

I love Meg because she’s different than a lot of the princesses (though I love them too!).  Unlike many of the innocent, naive ladies in other films, Meg has seen the worst of life.  She’s witty and doesn’t need a man – “I’m a damsel, I’m in distress, I can handle this.”  And although many people apparently don’t want to see their strong female leads in relationships, I like the fact that she falls in love with Hercules because they are good for each other, and she is able to embrace a side of her that she’s been hiding.  She’s strong in every sense of the word, and that’s what I wanted to be for the marathon.

This is the first time that I actually made a good bit of my costume myself – like, actual sewing and stuff!  And it came out pretty well, considering my very limited skills.  The biggest downside was the fact that much of my costume was hidden or covered during the actual marathon, because it ended up being about 40 degree that day!  Extra layers were sadly necessary.  But let’s take a look at what I did:

Megara running costume - Disney in your Day

I feel like you can always tell when it’s one of those 3am photos from the look in my eyes.

Top

I bought a basic purple athletic tank top from Amazon to work with as the base to my top (you can find the exact one that I used here).  I then went to Jo-Ann’s and purchased some dark purple fabric and large gold buttons.  I sewed the dark purple around the middle and the uttons onto the straps of the tank top.

Megara running costume - Disney in your Day

As you can tell from my skirt, not only was it cold but also windy that day!

Skirt

I actually made the skirt from scratch, and while it is certainly not a work of art if you looked closely at the stitching it got the job done.  I picked out a purple fabric that matched the tank top I had as best I could and got some elastic for the waist.  I used this YouTube video for the tutorial.  For the sash I used the same fabric that I had used on the top.  I actually just tied it around my waist and then hand sewed some stitches to secure it to the skirt and added the gold button.

Accessories

I always wear a headband when I run, and for this race I also wanted arm sleeves in case it was cold (it was colder than just arm sleeve weather!).  I decided to get gold for both of these to accent the costume and so it wasn’t quite so monochromatic.  I got this headband from Amazon and gold arm sleeves from Sparkle Athletic.  On race morning I ended up wearing a heftier headband with ear warmers underneath the headband, as well as underarmour under the arm sleeves and a jacket on top.

Stitch Fix review – January 2017

It’s Stitch Fix time!  I kind of forgot I had a fix coming at the end of January, given all the crazy stuff that had gone on this month.  I didn’t fill out a note or anything, so when I got the email it was coming it was a pleasant surprise!  Even better was when I opened the letter that comes with it and saw that I had the same stylist, Julie, again.  I’m glad she’s stayed with the company so long and that I get to have her every time!

Sade New York Martey Knit Wrap Dress – $78

I don’t own any wrap dresses, but I kind of like the style of them – I’ve just had trouble finding one that works for me.  A lot of times they end up being really low cut, which isn’t work appropriate.  This one didn’t have that problem.  I liked the fit of the dress, it was a good length, and for the most part it would have been a good one – except for the pattern.  It’s covered in nautical knots and that’s just not my thing.  Plus the price was very high on this one.  Even if it was a pattern I liked I’m not sure I would be willing to pay $78 for it.

Ellie Printed 3/4 Sleeve Blouse – $48

This top was pretty comfortable and soft, but again with an odd pattern.  I will say I liked the elephants more than the knots, but I still just wasn’t a huge fan of this.  I guess I’m just not an elephant person.  Plus it was a rather sheer top, slightly see-through, and I don’t do well with white.  This went back.

Kaslo Mixed Material Top – $44

Now this one was a top that definitely fit my style.  Due to how cold it is at my desk and how hot it can be when doing storytime, I tend to favor a short sleeved shirt paired with a cardigan all year long.  I loved the bright colors and pattern on this one.  But the thing that really pushed it over the edge was what the inside tag said – machine washable and tumble dry!  So many Stitch Fix items are hand wash and I don’t have a lot of time for hand washing, so they sit around too long.  Being able to throw this in the washing machine made it a definite keeper for me.

Kut from the Kloth Simmons Bootcut Jean – $88

I have my Stitch Fix profile set to not receive pants, but she either forgot or just thought I might like these anyway.  They sent a size 6 and I was happy to see that they fit, considering I’ve been waffling between a 6 and an 8 recently.  But they were also a bit too long.  And they were $88.  I just bought two pairs of jeans at Target last month that I love.  They fit amazingly well and feel great, and they were $30 each.  I couldn’t wear $88 jeans, I’d be too paranoid to walk around in them!  So these were definitely going back.

Jalen Lace Detail Dress – $74

Out of the box I loved this dress.  Once I tried it on I loved this dress.  However, I did not keep this dress.  It makes me sad but unfortunately the logical side of me had to come out.  It’s gorgeous, but it’s too short for work.  I would only be able to wear it at non-work events and only during the summer (so it was a little hard to imagine wearing it in January).  I knew it would be something I would only wear maybe two or three times a year at most.  And with all of the money we’ve spent recently on Merlin’s vet bills, I knew I couldn’t justify paying $74 for a piece I would only wear twice a year.  Sadly, it went back.

Overall this fix was a little hit or miss, but a big part of that is my fault – I forgot to write a note to my stylist describing what I would like this time around.  She absolutely nailed it with the top I kept and the one dress.  And I like that she took some risks with the other dress and top.  They may not have been patterns I liked but I enjoy interesting patterns so I’d love to get more things that aren’t boring.  For example, if there was a top with giraffes instead of elephants I would definitely consider keeping that 😉

If you’re interested in signing up for your own Fix, I would love it if you’d use my referral link – it would give me a $25 credit to use on a future fix, and doesn’t cost you anything.  I used a friend’s link when I signed up for mine so I could help her out, so I know it’s much appreciated!

Gaston Disney Bound

Gaston Disney Bound

When we made plans to go to Club Villain on our last Disney trip, I knew I wanted to attempt a Disney Bound of a villain.  I wasn’t sure who, and I went through a few options.  I considered a lot of the females villains first, but ultimately went for the one from my favorite Disney film – Gaston from Beauty and the Beast.

If you’re not familiar, Disney Bounding is a super fun way to show a little of your Disney passion without being over the top obvious about it.  Basically, Disney Bounding is when you dress in the colors or style of a certain character, but you use your every day clothes instead of a costume.  I’ve done Disney bounds as Elsa, AnnaAriel, Dory, Snow White, and Winnie the Pooh (blog post on that one still to come!).

Gaston Disney Bound - Disney in your Day

I liked this one because it was simple but easily recognizable.  Pretty much everyone at Club Villain got it right away, and even other people in the parks commented to me on it.  That’s one of the most fun things about Disney Bounding in Disney World – lots of people recognize what you’re doing and will compliment you on it!  I bought the majority of my outfit from Amazon so it’s easy for you to get the same pieces that I did if you want to replicate my look!  Here’s how I did it:

While I had a red shirt in my closet, I wanted a longer, tunic-style top.  I knew I was going to be wearing leggings so I wanted the longer top.  I found this one on Amazon at a great price.  The perfect color and style.  I used a brown belt I had at home to go around the middle.

The black leggings I already had – I got mine from Target and went with thicker ones because it was going to be a bit chilly for Florida that weekend!  If you don’t have a pair of black leggings already (and you really should, they are so versatile!), you can get a basic pair anywhere.

The thing that really takes this outfit from just a red and black ensemble to being a recognizable Disney Bound is the addition of the scarf.  I found this mustard yellow one on Amazon and it was perfect.

For the most part that’s all you really need to make this outfit work, but there are a couple other things you can do to add to it.  If was wearing it at home I’d pair it with my brown boots.  They weren’t comfortable enough for walking around theme parks so I just stuck with my flip flops in Disney World.  And there are some fun “antlers” jewelry that would be the perfect way to complete a Gaston Disney Bound!

Which Disney villain would you want to Disney Bound as?
