orange bird running costume - Disney in your Day

Okay, today I am sharing what might possibly be my favorite RunDisney outfit to date – my orange bird running costume! I have been a fan of the orange bird since they brought back the citrus swirl in 2012. There would be the rare piece of merchandise with him and I’d snatch it up right away. There was a point where I owned everything orange bird Disney had released since his return. Of course, now he’s all over the place, so my wallet couldn’t do that anymore!

But with so much love for the orange bird, I knew I had to do a costume during my Dopey Challenge weekend. I decided to wear my orange bird outfit during the half marathon, as I kept my full marathon costume as simple as possible.

Here’s how I put together my orange bird running costume!

To begin with, the top. I normally put together my race outfits from various pieces without actually “making” too much, as I’m not much of a seamstress. However, for this one I used some very basic skills. I bought an orange tank top on Amazon, as well as some yellow fabric. I then cut out an oval from the yellow fabric and sewed it onto the tank. I didn’t feel like getting out my sewing machine so I just did it by hand, but either way would work. To represent his wings I purchased green arm sleeves.

For the bottom half I went with a sparkle/sequined running skirt in orange – I love these skirts for race costumes because they’re comfortable and easy to throw over a pair of shorts or leggings, and they’re a lot of fun! To be honest at this point I have them in almost every color so I just grab whichever one I need when I’m making a race costume. And since the orange bird has little yellow feet I wore my yellow ProCompression socks!

Of course, in my opinion the best part of this outfit was the headband because that’s what truly makes it the orange bird! I knew I needed a thick headband to get the design, so I started with a plain orange headband from Bondi Band. I then outlined the orange bird’s eyes and beak freehand using a pencil before painting it and then ultimately outlining it with a black sharpie. I used acrylic paint since that’s what I had and I needed to do a few coats, but a fabric paint would definitely be better.

Easy and affordable Disney Halloween costumes for adults

It’s no secret that I love dressing up. Anything that requires a good costume, I’m in! Whether that’s race costumes, for theater, murder mystery parties, or of course Halloween. Sometimes I like to spend a lot of time creating a detailed costume, like the time I was Vanellope Von Schweetz. Other years things get busy and I look for something simple, like when we dressed up as Mike Wazowski and Sulley. If you’re looking to dress up this Halloween but want something simple you can wear to work or just around the house, I put together this list of easy and affordable Disney Halloween costumes for adults.

Those were my two main criteria – easy, in the sense that you only need to buy one main “piece” for the costume and you can basically supplement with other staples you probably have at home. And affordable because you probably don’t want to spend $50+ on something that you’re (most likely) not going to wear again.

I’m debating a few costumes this year, but I know whatever I choose will probably be pretty easy and affordable – and of course, Disney!

Here’s a look at some of the best easy and affordable Disney Halloween costumes for adults:

easy and affordable Disney Halloween costumes for adults

Chewbacca onesie

Onesies are the best for Halloween costumes because you just need the one piece and not really anything else! Plus they are amazingly comfy and will keep you warm, especially if you live in a place that gets colder in October like I do.

Grumpy dwarf accessories

ShopDisney released a few of these accessories sets this year, and they’re a great way to add some detail to a costume. Just use these accessories with brown pants, a red shirt, and a belt and you’re good to go!

Maleficent headdress for adults

Having the headdress is absolutely what makes a Maleficent costume. Use this piece with any sort of black dress or black robes (think old graduation robes or something like that).

Russell from Up accessories

Another cute accessory set, use these with brown pants and a yellow shirt.

Fairy godmother cape and wand

Get a cape and wand to be the fairy godmother! You could wear it with any sort of blue or gray dress.

Scar t-shirt

This one made me laugh – let your shirt speak as its own costume.

Pascal beanie

How cute would it be to dress as Pascal for Halloween? Just get this beanie and dress in green.

Lilo t-shirt dress

So easy – wear this dress with flip flops and if you feel like it, stick a flower in your hair!

Vanellope leggings

If you happen to have or can find a teal colored sweatshirt, you’ve got a comfy and easily identifiable costume with these leggings.

Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum

A perfect and simple costume for couples or friends. Wear a yellow shirt and red pants, and then add these fun hats! You can always do blue bow ties and red suspenders if you want to really add to the look.

Kristoff shirt

T-shirts that are designed to look like costumes are an easy way to do a basic costume. Try this one that looks like Kristoff’s top and match it with gray pants and boots.

Minnie Mouse skirt

Minnie Mouse’s polka dot skirt is iconic, and once you have that it’s easy to recreate her look with a black top and mouse ears that you may already have!

Moana skirt

Moana has been a popular costume the last few years, but it’s not too hard to put together her look with this skirt. Pair it with an orange colored top and a flower hair clip.

How to make a Captain Marvel running costume

Today I’m excited to share my Captain Marvel running costume, which I wore for the marathon as part of my Dopey Challenge in 2020!

Captain Marvel running costume - Disney in your Day

I debated for a long time about which Disney character I wanted to dress up as for the full marathon as part of my Dopey Challenge. It was important to me that I picked a strong, inspiring female figure who embodied many of the qualities I felt I was pursuing by attempting this challenge – determined, strong, independent. I also wanted to make sure it was something easy and comfortable to run in, because I would be wearing it for 26.2 miles! After considering a lot of options I decided I was putting together a Captain Marvel running costume.

Carol Danvers is definitely someone who I want to be channeling while attempting to run 48.6 miles in 4 days. Plus as a superhero, of course her outfit should be pretty easy to run in! While sometimes I do make my running costumes, this one was one something that I assembled by buying various bits and pieces. In the end it worked perfectly – it’s clear who I am but it’s also comfy and was adjustable to whatever temperatures you might encounter in Florida in January.

Here’s how I put together my Captain Marvel running costume!

The top is of course the most important part of the outfit, as it’s the big “identifier” to the character. There are tons of Captain Marvel shirts out there, but I wanted to pick one that looked closest to the one in the movie. Some of the shirts are much more simplistic, with just her logo on it, but I found this one on Amazon that was a little more intricate. It’s also a tech shirt and moisture wicking so perfect for running. Though they list it as a men’s shirt, I got it in a small and it fit really well.

Captain Marvel running costume - Disney in your Day

Any comfy blue running pants will work for this costume. I had a pair of long pants from fabletics I was planning to wear… and then when we were about 2 weeks before the trip the weather predictions seemed to indicate it could be quite warm that weekend. So I ran out to a local running store trying to find the perfect shorts. All of my running shorts tend to be short shorts, which is fine most of the time, but I did want to have to worry about thigh chafing during the marathon, which sometimes happens when I get up to 15+ miles (even with body glide). Lo and behold, I found the perfect shorts – longer, in blue, with side pockets.

There aren’t too many accessories needed for this outfit but I try to add any little details when I can. Because she wears red boots I chose red knee-high compression socks. I also wore red gloves for waiting in the corral and the first few miles of the race. It did get too hot to wear them but it was nice for a cooler start. I chose these long red gloves because they were fingerless which I thought would make it a little easier to do things like open my chews, take photos, etc. Finally, I wore my Captain Marvel magic band.

Disney Halloween costumes you can make from your closet

Looking for a last minute Halloween costume that doesn’t require much effort? You might be able to put together a simple Disney look with pieces right from your own closet! Depending on the clothing items you have and your ability to do some very simple DIY, I came up with some fun Disney Halloween costumes you can make from your closet.

In many ways this is similar to Disney Bounding, which is using regular clothes to create the appearance of a Disney character. However, I would take this a step further and make it more costume-like. For instance, if I was doing a subtle Disney bound of Mickey Mouse I’d just wear his colors – but to make it a costume I’d add mouse ears and gloves. I’ve tried to provide a variety of ideas since I know not everyone is like me and has several wigs and all sorts of items in their closets!

If you’re looking for simple pieces you can buy to really put together an easy costume, make sure you check out my post on easy and affordable Disney Halloween costumes for adults.

Now let’s take a look at these Disney Halloween costumes you can make from your closet:

Elsa Disneybound for formal occasions

A look at how I put together my classic Elsa Disneybound:

This is actually my third Elsa Disneybound I’ve shared on the blog (and the fourth one I’ve done, the other is yet to come!). I guess I’m drawn to her character for a few reasons. Her outfits are beautiful and the colors are usually distinct enough to create a disneybound that isn’t too difficult and is recognizable. Previously I’d shared my Elsa coronation Disneybound and Elsa Frozen 2 Disneybound, but with this one I did something a little bit different.

If you’re not familiar with what Disney Bounding is, you can read about it here. I typically try to keep my looks a bit more casual, but for Elsa’s most iconic outfit I went formal. I actually created this outfit a few years ago, originally when I performed in a local theater’s Broadway revue. I sang Elsa’s song “Monster” from the Broadway musical version of Frozen and wore this dress. I decided to put it on again and have a little fun in the snow!

Elsa Disneybound - Disney in your Day

How I put together my Elsa Disneybound:

Elsa’s dress

The most important component of this Disneybound is, of course, the dress. When I was first searching for my outfit for the performance I tried on a ton of different light blue dresses. I wanted to find something that captured Elsa’s look, wasn’t too expensive, and was comfortable. And bonus points if I felt like I could wear it again for another formal occasion! After trying on many different dresses I found this one on the clearance rack at Macy’s. It might be hard to tell from the pictures but it also has a slight sparkle/glitter to it. One thing I love about Disneybounding is that the outfit doesn’t need to be identical as long as it reminds you of the character.

Elsa Disneybound - Disney in your Day

Of course, given that this dress was on clearance at Macy’s two years ago you can’t buy this exact one now. However, I did some hunting on Amazon for you and found a few options that would work really well! I would encourage you to find the style that works best for you – if you prefer sleeves instead of sleeveless, if you want something form fitting or not, if you prefer short or long – you can still do the Elsa look at your comfort level.

Elsa’s cape

Elsa Disneybound - Disney in your Day

Let’s be honest, the cape is what really makes an Elsa look stand out from just a fancy blue dress! I got my cape on Amazon – the one I bought is here. Even though it has a hole for the head, I didn’t like the look of it in front so I ended up pinning it to the shoulders of the dress so it would only hang from the back. I went with white thinking I could potentially use it for other things (like my Elsa running costume!), but a light blue or silver would look great for Elsa as well. You can also find capes with a few different styles if you don’t want to do what I did – a cape is pretty attention grabbing, but you could always use a shawl or scarf to get a similar effect.

Accessories for Elsa Disneybound

Aside from the cape, Elsa doesn’t actually have a ton of accessories. For this outfit I added a pair of arm sleeves, because her dress/cape has some light looking sleeves. I didn’t wear them for the theater performance but I did for the snow photo shoot, because it was cold and a little extra arm warmth wouldn’t hurt!

Elsa Disneybound - Disney in your Day

I always encourage people to go with shoes they are comfortable in. We only get brief glimpses of Elsa’s shoes with this outfit, but it looks like heels in either a light blue or clear/silver depending on the lighting. When I wore this outfit for my performance I had silver heels. When I did the snow photoshoot just wore boots, because snow! The dress is so long anyway you might not see much o the shoes. Heels, boots, flats – wear what you’re comfortable in! For colors I recommend silver, blue, or white – extra points for something sparkly!

Elsa’s hair and makeup

I have long hair, so I actually rock the Elsa side braid look fairly often. I tried to add a little sparkle to my braid with some hair pins I happened to have. Mine were mostly pearls or gemstones, but there are tons of different one you can buy including snowflakes which would be perfect! I’ve linked to some below.

Elsa Disneybound - Disney in your Day

I am not a makeup expert by any means and mostly use very basic stuff with some fun lip and eye colors. If you’re wondering, my eyeshadow was a combination of different colors from two Disney palettes I have – one inspired by Ariel and one from Jasmine. I used a vibrant purple from Ariel and then a lighter shimmery purple on top blended together. My lipstick is Lipsense, and the color is strawberry shortcake with the opal gloss on top.

Tips for the perfect Elsa Disneybound

  • Try to use what you have – a Disneybound doesn’t have to be a perfect replica, so if you have a blue dress that’s similar but not the exact shade you can still make it work!
  • It’s all about the details – snowflakes are an easy way to give an outfit more of an “Elsa” vibe. You could add some snowflake jewelry.
  • Take a look at different pictures of Elsa in this outfit from the movie – depending on the angle and the shot you can sometimes see other details. I created a little collage for myself while I was working on this outfit.
  • If you’re looking to take some fun photos this collage can also help with pose ideas, because I can be awkward about that! Take plenty and don’t be afraid to try something – if it doesn’t work you don’t have to share it!

WandaVision Disneybound – create Wanda’s 1950s sitcom look

A look at how I put together my WandaVision Disneybound:

WandaVision disneybound - Disney in your Day

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been hooked on WandaVision since the first episode came out. I’m super excited for the finale this week, though I’m a little nervous about how emotional it might make me! I know some people didn’t love the first few episodes with their sitcom styles through the decades but for me it was full of nostalgia.

I grew up on TV Land and all of the old sitcoms. I’ve probably seen every episode of I Love Lucy, Mr. Ed, Gilligan’s Island, The Andy Griffith Show, and Bewitched. So episode 1 of WandaVision had my cracking up at the corny sitcom situations and loving the happy, silly feel of those shows. And I’m a big fan of retro fashion too, so the costuming was very cool to see as well!

WandaVision disneybound - Disney in your Day

Which was why I knew I had to try and create Wanda’s look from this first episode. I chose to do her fancier dress that she changed into for the dinner with this WandaVision disneybound. (If you’re not familiar with what Disney Bounding is, you can read about it here. )

One of the trickier things with this one is that the episode is all in black and white, so I didn’t know colors for things. I searched for images of them filming but did not initially find anything so I made a few of my own decisions – remember, Disneybounding doesn’t have to be exact, just inspired by the character! It’s not a costume. The major one was the color of her dress. I had a feeling it was a lighter color since it’s more of a light gray than dark, but I decided not to go that route. Since she is the Scarlet Witch, after all, I went with red. If you want to be more accurate it turns out the dress is light pink.

I had so much fun with this one I’m kinda tempted to do the rest of her outfits through the decades!

Here’s a look at how I put together my WandaVision Disneybound (1950s style):

WandaVision disneybound - Disney in your Day

1950s-style dress

Like I mentioned, I love 1950s style so I already had a bunch of dresses saved in my Amazon wishlist (I was similarly inspired for my Disgust disneybound). I was flexible on the color (though I was aiming for something in the red/pink family) but didn’t want anything patterned. What I focused the most on was the style of the sleeves and shoulders. I wanted that sort of wrap style she has. I couldn’t find anything with both that style sleeve and with the bow so I chose to forgo it and went with this “wine” colored dress. But there are plenty of options that give off the same sort of vibe! You could also go in another direction that I considered and get a gray dress in homage to the black and white episode.

WandaVision disneybound - Disney in your Day

The apron

Wanda wears an apron for part of the episode with this dress, when she is in the kitchen attempting to cook dinner. The apron looks like it has a floral pattern from watching the episode, and it’s a half apron at the waist. I chose one that would go with my color dress, so I found one with red roses on it and stripes at the bottom which makes it feel a little more “retro” to me. I wore it for some of the photos we did and then took it off for the others.

Retro Shoes

We only got a few glimpses of Wanda’s shoes in the episode, but they looked like typical retro heels with a bow on them. I’m not a big bow person myself (and I had already picked a dress without a bow) so I looked at other options. I wanted a neutral color so I can use the shoes again for another outfit – because you know I’m going to find an excuse to create a 1950s look again sometime! So I was considering white or beige. I liked the look of this pair because they had some detailing that was fun rather than being too plain. You could go neutral or get something to match the color o your dress.

WandaVision disneybound - Disney in your Day

Floral Necklace

Wanda wears a pretty distinctive floral necklace in this episode (I don’t know if there’s any significance behind it, someone who knows more about the MCU might know!). It’s a floral chain and looks like daisies. After examining options I went with this one – it’s not the same exact style of flower but it looks like something I might wear again. She also has matching earrings but I can’t wear earrings of any kind due to an allergy.

Hair and makeup

My hair is longer than Wanda’s, but I still tried to curl it in a 1950s style. I’m not an expert at this stuff – I just do my best to curl it really tightly and then pin it and spray it. I am not a makeup expert by any means and mostly use very basic stuff with some fun lip and eye colors. If you’re wondering, my eyeshadow is from a Jasmine inspired palette I have and my lipstick is from Besame Cosmetics, the color Sweet Dreams from the Agent Carter Collection (no longer available but they have many similar styles and colors).

Tips for the perfect WandaVision Disneybound

  • Get things you’ll wear again – since the episode is in black and white the color doesn’t matter as much.
  • If you’re making any of your own photos black and white, be aware of shades and how things might look when color is gone.
  • Watch the episode again or look up photos of Wanda’s outfit – I created a little collage for myself while I was working on this outfit.
  • If you’re looking to take some fun photos this collage can also help with pose ideas, because I can be awkward about that! Take plenty and don’t be afraid to try something – if it doesn’t work you don’t have to share it!

Wall-E Disneybound

A look at how I put together my Wall-E Disneybound:

If you know me, you know I can’t resist a good disneybound! So when my travel companion last month, Jenn from Fairest Run of All, was up for coordinating one I was all in. She threw out Wall-E and Eve as a possibility and I loved it and requested Wall-E because I cannot be trusted to wear white.

Surprisingly this was actually my first real “couple” or coordinated disneybound! I had done my Cruella DeVil disneybound with a few friends who all did villains but I’d never done one where we were two characters who typically go together or are from the same movie.

Wall-e Disneybound - Disney in your Day

If you’re not familiar with what Disney Bounding is, you can read about it here. Some people go all out and some people keep it very simple. For me, a major concern when bounding for Disney World is comfort! For example, would boots have been a “better” look for Wall-E? Sure. Was I wearing clunky boots walking around the theme park in May? No thank you. For theme park bounding I like to keep it comfortable and light, since it’s usually hot.

This post contains affiliate links – that means it costs nothing extra to you when you purchase by clicking the link but I make a couple of extra cents to support the blog!

Basics for a Wall-E Disneybound

You have a good bit of freedom when it comes to picking an outfit for Wall-E. He has a few different colors combined and given that he’s a robot and doesn’t actually have legs or wear pants or anything you can really choose which clothing items feature each color. I try to start with a color palette so I have an idea of what I’m working with. Wall-e’s main colors are a goldish yellow, browns and grays, and a little pop of red. He’s also got an interesting black and white stripe pattern on his arms.

Wall-e Disneybound inspiration and color palette - Disney in your Day

Skirts or pants for a Wall-E disneybound

I already had a gold colored skirt that I figured would work perfectly for this (I used it for my Winnie the Pooh disneybound as well!), so I started there. Wall-e’s main body color was covered. You could easily do any sort of shorts, leggings, or pants too but I like skirts and I already had this one.

Top for a Wall-E disneybound

I really liked the black and white stripes so I wanted to incorporate that somehow – for me a good disneybound is all about the smaller details, and the stripes are much more distinctive than just doing an all gold or brown outfit. If I was doing some sort of disneybound in cooler weather I’d probably look at black and white striped sweaters since the stripes are on his arms, but that wasn’t happening in 90 degrees! I did look at some headbands as well before deciding to just do some sort of tank top of t-shirt.

I looked at a bunch of different styles of tops before finally deciding that just a basic tank top would probably work best with the skirt I had. But there were some cute t-shirts, crop tops, and tie-front shirts as well.

Finally I wanted another layer to make it a bit more interesting and add another color, but I was very aware of the heat. I’d purchased a very sheer black shrug/cardigan when I went on my cruise and wanted something light and cute to cover up a little but not be hot. So I hit Amazon again and while they didn’t make the exact one I already have in brown, I found a bunch of others and was very happy with the one I purchased.

Accessories

A few accessories make all the difference, I always say! And the best ones came from Jenn, who purchased these adorable matching buttons for us to wear. They fit the characters perfectly since they each have that respective logo or symbol on them at some point in the film. She got the 3 inch buttons and I think that was the best choice since you can see them much better than smaller ones.

I’m a big fan of trying to use what you already own for disneybounding and I happened to have a belt that was the right color for this outfit. I also think a belt can really bring together a skirt and top so I was pleased that this all worked so well.

One other little touch was wearing a necklace with a leaf on it. I know the necklace is a bit hard to see from the photos but it’s pretty simple. Since Wall-E has that little plant for so much of the film it seemed like a good touch!

You don’t see them in most of these pictures since we could take masks off for photos while we were there, but we did have Wall-E and Eve face masks to wear as well. I actually made these myself using my Cricut machine. I’ve been having a lot of fun with it and thought it was a cute little extra we could throw in! I don’t know how much longer we’ll be wearing masks but maybe I’ll switch to shirts or headbands and eventually put them in my Etsy shop if there’s any interest…

Tips for the perfect Wall-E Disneybound

  • Try to use what you have – a Disneybound doesn’t have to be a perfect replica, so if you have anything that’s gold/yellow, brown, or gray, pull it out of the closet and see what you can make work!
  • It’s all about the details – the pins were really what makes these disneybounds recognizable and they were a cheap and fun addition.
  • Watch the movie again or look at different photos – depending on the angle and the shot you can sometimes see other details. For example, in some photos from the front you can’t even see Wall-e’s black and white striped arms. I created that little collage for myself while I was working on this outfit.

Formal Disney outfit ideas - Disney in your Day

I love to get dressed up when I visit Disney World – you can take some great pictures and there are so many great Disney outfit ideas out there! When it comes to fancier occasions, I’ll absolutely use that as an excuse to dress up as well. Whether it’s going to a signature meal at Disney World, formal night on the Disney cruise, attending a Disney wedding, doing a photoshoot, or even for Dapper Day, there are lots of reasons to get fancy.

For me it’s easy to find some formal Disney outfit ideas because there are so many Disney dresses, jewelry, etc. But for Jason it feels like there are fewer options. While we’ve come across a few Disney ties before with things like Mickey Mouse or the Haunted Mansion wallpaper, I just never found as much variety. So when I saw all the options on Cufflinks.com I was excited and suddenly had lots of formal Disney outfit ideas for men or anyone who prefers to wear a tie!

One thing I absolutely love about the items at Cufflinks.com is the fact that they have a variety of Disney movies and characters represented. It’s not just Mickey Mouse! I was thrilled to find The Lion King, since Jason and I were visiting Disney World for our 10th anniversary and had a small photoshoot planned in Animal Kingdom.

Other fun photoshoot outfit ideas:

  • Take pictures around Adventureland or Caribbean Beach resort with a Pirates of the Caribbean theme
  • Do a photoshoot around Toy Story Land in Hollywood Studios
  • Take family Christmas photos at the parks during the winter with formal Disney Christmas outfits
  • Or do Halloween photos instead with a formal Nightmare Before Christmas look!
  • Wear a formal Peter Pan inspired outfit for a fancy photoshoot at the Grand Floridian
  • Go with classic Mickey and friends for a formal outfit that works anywhere
  • Photos in Epcot’s Morocco pavilion with an Aladdin outfit

Formal Disney outfit ideas for a signature meal or cruise

If you’re doing a signature meal at Disney World, it’s not required to go full formal and wear a tie (unless you’re at Victoria and Albert’s), but they do have a dress code. And if you’re celebrating a special occasion, why not get dressed up? For our 10th anniversary dinner we ate at Citrico’s at the Grand Floridian, and I wore a red dress with Disney accessories. Jason was able to coordinate with me by wearing a red button down shirt and a black Mickey tie.

A classic Mickey look works anywhere, but if you really want to get coordinated with the place you’re visiting here are some ideas:

  • A formal Pixar outfit for dinner at Animator’s Palate on Disney Cruise lines
  • A Beauty and the Beast look for Be Our Guest in Magic Kingdom or Lumiere’s on the Disney Magic cruise
  • Go classic Disney for the 1923 restaurant on the new Disney Wish
  • Wear that Lion King tie for dinner at Tiffins in Animal Kingdom

Formal Disney outfit ideas for other events

Of course, there are plenty of other occasions when you can wear a formal Disney outfit! Anytime you might wear a tie or get dressed up, do it Disney style. Attending a wedding? One thing I love about the options at cufflinks.com is that the majority of their ties are really understated and they are all really classy, so it’s not obnoxiously Disney. You have a more subtle approach so you can show your passion even at formal occasions outside of the theme parks or cruise ships. Whether you’re attending a wedding or party in Disney or outside of it, you can create some fun outfits. Another great time wear these Disney ties and accessories is for Dapper Day!

Disney ties

Creating a formal Disney outfit for men:

Disney ties

The best way to get formal and still do it Disney style is with a Disney tie! Pair it with a button down shirt in a coordinating color and you’re basically good to go. Even if it’s not super formal, ties (and bow ties!) are fun to wear for any occasion that’s a step above t-shirt wear. I think they look great with a short sleeve or long sleeve button down, and no jacket necessary. If you want you can add on a tie clip for good measure.

Disney cufflinks

If you want to add another fun Disney element to a formal outfit that includes a long-sleeve button down shirt, Disney cufflinks are a subtle but fun way to do that. While it sometimes seems men don’t have as many options as women for accessorizing (I have lots of Disney necklaces, bracelets, and more!), cufflinks are really a lot of fun. While you could go classic with some Mickey head cufflinks, there are so many other character options as well – Winnie the Pooh, Donald Duck, Peter Pan, Pixar characters, etc. Some come in color and others are metal. I like the subtlety of some of these, especially ones like the “original Mickey Mouse,” the Incredibles logo, and even the Cave of Wonders from Aladdin.

A jacket with Disney pocket squares

Of course I’m a fan of going all out, so if you want to look full formal the best way to get fancy is by putting on a jacket that includes a pocket square! There are some really nice ones that coordinate with the available Disney ties and cufflinks and just really pull your look together.

Disney socks

Formal Disney socks for men? Yup, it’s a thing! I love some fun socks, but for a formal look I like something a bit more subtle. These socks are nice because you still get your Disney in your day, but they fit with the formal wear as well.

Where to buy Disney ties and more

Like anything in life, I’ve found that paying for something that’s good quality is worth it in the long run. The Disney ties and accessories at cufflinks.com are all top-notch in terms of quality and made from great materials. They look absolutely gorgeous in person. When we took our photos at Animal Kingdom (in Florida in August!) Jason didn’t want to take his tie off after the photoshoot because he liked it so much!

Another nice thing about the items for sale here is that they come packaged beautifully – the cufflinks have really lovely boxes and everything looks very professional. These items would make great gifts for the male Disney fans in your life who might be tough to shop for.

Mystery box

I actually plan to write a separate blog post about this later in the month, but I also wanted to briefly mention that cufflinks.com offers a Disney mystery box as well. If you like surprises like me and need some new Disney formal stuff in your closet this is an amazing deal. For $50 you get a box that includes 6 items from their Disney collection with a value of over $200. I was blown away by everything in my mystery box, so keep an eye out for that review soon!

A review of a Disney mystery box full of ties, cufflinks, and more from cufflinks.com:

Disney Mystery Box - Disney in your Day

I don’t know about you, but I love a good surprise. That’s one of the reasons why I really enjoy getting subscription boxes where you don’t know exactly what’s coming. I’ve been able to try some cool new things that way or get items I may not have bought for myself but ended up loving. And there’s lots of Disney subscription boxes out there too! Recently I found a great one I wanted to share, which is a Disney Mystery Box from Cufflinks.com.

I had shared a bit about this company earlier and how much I really liked their products – they offer ties, cufflinks, and other more formal wear for men but they have lots of really cool options for Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars fans. They are really great quality and many tend to be more subtle Disney which is a nice touch. Jason got lots of compliments on the items he wore during our last trip to Disney World.

If you’ve been intrigued by these items but also on a budget, the mystery box is an amazing option. Unlike some mystery boxes which feel overpriced, this is actually an amazing bargain. The Disney mystery box is $50 and the items inside are mostly older stock/discontinued, but that doesn’t mean they’re not still great. The introduce new collections often so they have to make room for the new, and so these mystery boxes work out for everyone!

Let’s take a look at what was inside my Disney mystery box:

This post contains affiliate links – that means it costs nothing extra to you when you purchase by clicking the link but I make a couple of extra cents to support the blog!

I was honestly blown away by how many items were inside of my $50 box. I know these are good products and their retail price is on the higher end, so I was expecting maybe 3-4 things. But I actually received two ties, two bow ties, two tie pins, a pocket square, and a pair of cufflinks. It’s a value of more than $200 and it’s all Disney themed. I think if you’re a Disney fan and you like a variety of movies/characters and just want to add some fun formal stuff to your wardrobe, this is a great way to do it at a low price.

If you want to see the unboxing video you can find that here:

I did receive items from a few different movies/characters. It was nice when there were multiple items from one franchise because you can coordinate them too! For example, 4 of the items in my box were Aladdin themed. These included a Jafar bow tie, a Genie bow tie, a Cave of Wonders pin, and a Jafar pocket square. If you wanted to do a villain look you pretty much have all the accessories you need.

There were a few items from Pirates of the Caribbean too, which were very subtle. The pin is a nice little touch, and the cufflinks are also not obviously “in your face” Disney (in fact, although I’ve seen the Pirates movies it’s been awhile so I wasn’t 100% sure what they were at first!).

Disney Mystery Box - Disney in your Day

I also got two additional ties. The Toy Story one is really pretty. I like how they incorporated some brighter colors into it without being over the top bright – it’s a silver tie but the characters appear on it outlined in various primary colors. The other tie was a Christmas tie. This one actually doesn’t feel Disney at all (it’s based on the Nutcracker movie that was released) so it’s perfect for any Christmas outfit really.

Overall I was super impressed with this Disney mystery box from Cufflinks.com. There was a ton of stuff packed inside and it was all really nice. Jason is going to have to do a lot of dressing up with me now! The value is a lot. They guarantee at least 6 items in each box. Normally their ties go for $58, cufflinks are $70, bow ties are $48, pocket squares are $28, and lapel pins are $20. That means the value I got in this box was $350 and it only cost $50! Can’t really beat that.

Elsa Disneybound: white dress from Frozen 2

How I created the look for my Elsa Disneybound: white dress from Frozen 2:

Elsa disneybound: white dress - Disney in your Day

For some reason Elsa has become one of my favorite characters to Disneybound. I love Frozen (and Frozen 2), and her outfits are all so beautiful. When I decided I was going to try and recreate one or two of her looks, I got a little carried away and ended up with 4 of them! The other three I’ve shared on the blog in the past, but now I’ve got an Elsa Disneybound white dress look from the second half of Frozen 2.

Previously I’d shared my Elsa coronation DisneyboundElsa Frozen 2 Disneybound, and a Disneybound of Elsa’s classic blue dress. This is the last one I’ve done myself, though I will say Elsa does have even more outfits so maybe I’ll have to try another one in the future!

If you’re not familiar with what Disney Bounding is, you can read about it here. Elsa’s dress at this point in the movie is almost completely white, so you have a lot of options for what you can do clothing wise if you have a lot of white clothing. As someone who is pretty consistently spilling coffee or other such things on myself I don’t own a lot of white, but I was still able to put something fun together from what I did have and other costume-type pieces.

Elsa’s dress

Elsa’s dress is the majority of her outfit, and it’s mostly white with some purple and blue diamond patterns (it also looks like it’s probably pretty sparkly!). This was more of a situation where I was going to work with what I had, so I wasn’t really able to incorporate the blue and purple as much as I might want to. My one nod to that was in my jewelry, which I’ll talk about more below.

I don’t own a white dress (not even my wedding dress was white – it was more of a cream color), so I ended up doing a skirt and a top. I had a long white peasant skirt that I’d used for a costume previously when I attended a murder mystery party, so it seemed like the perfect time to use that again since I needed something white.

When it comes to Disneybounding I always recommend trying to use a lot of what you already own, but if you don’t have anything you could do a dress or a shirt/shirt combo. Really whatever you feel comfortable with!

Though I didn’t choose to do it for my version of this outfit, you could look into either getting something with long sleeves or adding arm sleeves. I think this shirt is my favorite option for long sleeves for this outfit, but if you already have something you want to use that’s short sleeved and you want to add a sleeved look, you can easily do so with separate arm sleeves or even a bolero like this one.

Elsa’s cape

When I first bought this cape for a theater performance I had no idea I would get so much use out of it in the future! Elsa’s cape is often a big part of her look, and I’ve used it in my other Elsa Disneybound as well as my Elsa running costume. I got my cape on Amazon – the one I bought is here. Even though it has a hole for the head, I didn’t like the look of it in front so I ended up pinning it to the shoulders of the shirt so it would only hang from the back. Of course, you may not want to go “full cape,” in which case you could also use a shawl or scarf to create the effect.

Accessories for this Elsa Disneybound

Overall this is more of Elsa’s “I’m free” look, so she’s not big on accessories. I personally added a necklace because I didn’t have any detailing in the outfit to represent those pretty blue and purple diamonds on the bodice of her dress and the bottom of the skirt. I had a necklace with different shades of blue so I used that, but you can certainly do something similar with whatever you might have – or a bracelet, earrings, etc.

For shoes, Elsa actually looks like she’s barefoot or wearing something very light. Unfortunately that’s not going to work for me, especially out in the snow! I just wore my boots, but if you wanted something pretty you could play around with different white or silver options (especially if they’re sparkly!).

Elsa’s hair and makeup

When I took these photos I had my long hair (which I really miss and regret cutting but that’s besides the point!). Elsa wears her long hair down and freely with just a little bit of a wave. I think you can do whatever you want here with what you have. I am not a makeup expert by any means and mostly use very basic stuff with some fun lip and eye colors. I do own the Elsa eyeshadow palette from Colourpop and she tends to go purple a lot so that’s what I used. She’s also got a sort of smoky eyeliner look and pink lipstick.

Tips for the perfect Elsa disneybound white dress look:

  • Try to use what you have – anything with a base of white will work if you focus more on the style with the long skirt.
  • Add some sparkle with anything glittery and try to find creative ways to incorporate the blue and purple diamond patterns.
  • You can actually interpret this outfit a few different ways – as you can see from the photos below, her dress kind of changes appearances. In the one shot it looks much more silvery and sparkly, but in the other it has the more obvious diamond pattern. It is a magic dress, after all!
  • If you’re looking to take some fun photos the collage can also help with pose ideas, because I can be awkward about that! Take plenty and don’t be afraid to try something – if it doesn’t work you don’t have to share it! And bonus points if it snows and you can take your pictures outside 😉
